Dear Members (and especially our newest members),

It is time once again to ratify a piece of our Charter.
HERE IS HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

All registered members may discuss and vote in this thread.

The text of the Article we are voting on is given below along with a link to its place in the full Charter.

Before voting, we discuss in this thread for a minimum of ten days. During those ten days, you should state bluntly in this thread anything you don’t like.. If enough people dislike certain provisions, we will remove them from the text before the voting begins and allow the committee to work on them again until they are more acceptable to the membership.

At the end of the discussion, the vote opens and remains open for ten days, two weekends inclusive. The vote takes the form of a poll in this thread, where you vote either yes or no to approve these pieces of the Charter.

This vote opened late and will remain open until Monday, August 8, 11:59 pm Greenwich Mean Time.

(Translation: voting from July 22, ~8:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time or ~5:00 pm Pacific Daylight Time until August 1, ~8:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time or ~5:00 pm Pacific Daylight Time. )

ARTICLE 9: POLICY ON FORUM READABILITY
The text of this article in the context of the full Charter can be read IN THIS POST.

This one is so easy, folks, that I am simply posting the whole Article here.
____________________________________________________________

Article 9: Policy on Forum Readability

It is the policy of board77 that new forums will be created as read-and-write forums for all registered members, and will be read-only to the public, unless otherwise designated by a Binding Vote of the Membership conducted according to Article 7.

Changing the permissions of an existing forum also requires a Binding Vote.

____________________________________________________________

The only catch here is that we've not yet presented Article 7 for ratification, but the basic meaning of the Article you are voting on here is that creating any kind of hidden or partial-permission forum would require a vote of the membership. Forums are read-write to registered members and read-only to lurkers unless the membership votes otherwise.

In order to ratify this Article, 39 members must cast votes, and of those who vote, two-thirds (67%) must vote in favor.

Good and clear.

No problems that I can see...we're not going to be creating the things willy-nilly anyway.

Actually, Prim, "putative" is a common combination of the words

1."punative": a work often associated with punishment, which is often associated with Ax, and

2. "putt": a word often associated with grown men dressing in bizarre outfits and spending obscene amounts of time and money for the "privilege" of using ridiculously expensive and "exclusive" pieces of steel to whack little white balls all over creation (to their own utter frustration, which is often revealed by the fervent, heartfelt and often creative cussing associated with this activity), while their wives are at home feeding the children grilled-cheese sandwiches.

What this has to do with poking Ax I'm not sure.

:scratch

And the article looks great to me.

:D

I think we need an amendment to say "Discussion will continue for a minimum of 10 days or until the first 72 hours without a single relevant comment." :D

And before someone kindly points this out to me, I do know what is wrong with the above sentence. :blackeye

A very sensible article, there.

It's true 10 days can seem awfully long for a simple issue, but the main reason for picking such a long period was to make sure that people who are away from the board for a week wouldn't completely miss a discussion or a vote. We don't want to exclude people.

Now, people who manage to go away for two weeks are on their own. But anyone who can get together two straight weeks of holiday probably deserves any ancillary suffering that might occur. It ain't natural, it ain't.

People, I missed the moment when this poll had to be opened. So I'll put up the poll now but it will have to run until August 8 along with the other ratification votes.
