If the poll closed tonight, with the votes there are right now (44 yes, 14 no) would there be a quorum?

The quorum was attained quite a while ago S_O. It's 33.

Almost double the quorum, I think. I believe the minimum number was 33 voters.

Edit: Hey!! I smell favoritism on this board. I posted at THE EXACT SAME MINUTE as Eru and Jn, yet I come last??? :D :D :D

Ok, somehow I got it in my head that there had to be 33 Yes votes beyond the No votes (like right now there has to be 47 votes). :P

The quorum and the supermajority are two independent measures. Once the quorum is met, meaning that the members considered the item important enough to be voted on, then the only thing that matters is getting 67% of the vote. That is, 67% have to vote 'yes' for the item to pass. Otherwise it fails.

On the other hand, we could adopt S_O's version and all go stark raving mad. :D

Jnyusa, as we draw near to the end, a tidying detail has come up. I'm wondering about the Ranger Handbook, and just what should be added to it, and if it would be best for a Ranger to do it (knowing the reality of being a Ranger), or if I should just go insert something, and if I do, should I round up the committee to have them approve it?

Cerin,

I let the Rangers make all subsequent additions/corrections after the first draft because I figured they would be in a better position to explain their procedures than anyone else would. Also, the Handbook is stored in Forum Management now so I guess the Rangers really do have to be the ones to do it.

I'm one of the next Rangers up, so the job might actually fall to me.

The Charter itself needs to be updated in a couple places. In the Jury Room, the whole Charter is in one thread. Each article has its own post. Once the article is in its updated form you can just delete the old post and insert the new one. A Ranger will have to do the actual edit for you ... and, it's my post actually so that will probably be me again.

Then Alandriel keeps the geocity site so you can PM her and tell her to copy the updated article whole from the Jury Room. And Ax updates the pdf version.

Alandriel and Ax will also update their respective versions of the Handbook once the Rangers do the corrections.

The Jury Room Threads and the Ratification Thread go into the History Forum, and the catalogs there have to be updated with links.

Is this our first Amendment? I think it is. OK, there's no catalog yet so you'll have to create a new thread in that forum, entitled "Charter Amendments." Within that thread there should be two categories: Committee Discussion Threads, and Ratification Threads. (You can look at the Charter Convention thread there and see how it's formatted.) Your two threads then will be the first links posted in each of those categories, respectively.

oh wait - correction ... you'll have to create the catalog thread in the Jury Room and have a Ranger move it for you. The History forum is read only.

It's a little bit tedious, but makes it oh so much easier to find stuff later on.

Once the threads are out of the Jury Room, you're done! :)

Excellent job done by all, btw. That was a really tough topic and people seem to be satisfied with the result.

Jn

So it sounds like I don't have to notify anyone about the Rangers needing to update the Handbook.

I've made arrangements with tinwe to do the edits to the Charter, just before he finishes his Ranger stint.

As to the rest, thanks for spelling it out, I wouldn't have known to contact Alandriel or Ax.

Yes, nearly done now. :)

If Tinwe is willing to do it, that's great!

The only thing I would ask is to make sure that when you paste in the updated Article nothing from the old article is left out unless it's been changed and the formatting remains consistent with other posts. It's just easier to read that way.

Thanks!

Jn

There are two different approaches we could take in adding the amendment text to the Charter, and they are not mutually exclusive. One is to simply make the changes indicated in the text and note in the affected articles that there was an amendment (and to make the changes to various stickies). The other is to do that, AND to include the whole text of the amendment at the end of the Charter. The latter seems more redundant, but provides an historical record of what is actually contained in each amendment as it comes through, so future questions of "Where did THAT come from" can be answered easily.

My inclination is towards the second for the .pdf version I maintain, but perhaps not for the Geocities version.

Thoughts?
