Rangers, I need to send an email to those members who were invited before March 4 but became active shortly after March 12. The list of recipients and the text of the email follow. Thank you, Jn

Subject: Your eligibilities on board77

Dear friends:

Some of you have already received a PM from me (as Jnyusa) about your eligibilities, so I apologize for the portion of this email that is repeat information.

Just before opening, we agreed in the Business Forum that those members who joined and became active shortly after March 12 should also be eligible for the Ranger and Jury Pool before we begin second terms of office for former Rangers. Unfortunately, the thread where you could volunteer was locked about a day later. I did send a PM to each of you, but that referred only to the Ranger Pool, not to the Jury Pool; and Frelga has called my attention to the fact that there is some confusion about eligibilities.

If you are receiving this email, you meet the join-date requirements for the Ranger Pool and the Jury Pool. To be a Ranger, you must be 18 years of age or older, but there are no age requirements for the Jury Pool.

There are two Handbooks you can download and read to decide whether you are interested:

Handbook for Rangers
http://uk.geocities.com/b77_ad/Handbook ... ndbook.htm

Handbook for Jurors, Mediators and Loremasters
http://uk.geocities.com/b77_ad/Handbook ... ndbook.htm

If you would like to serve as a Ranger, reply to this email, confirm that you are 18 years of age or older, and tell us your time zone and native language.

If you would like to serve as a Juror, reply to this email and tell us whether you are also interested in serving as a Mediator or Loremaster.

Thank you! And I hope I’ll be hearing from you soon.

Jnyusa
(honorary, temporary Mayor)

Jn, do you want us to PM you the email addresses, or to email these folks from the Mayor email?

Also, isn't there an email that needs to be sent to our newest members as well?

Voronwe - I don't think the Mayor is supposed to have the email addresses of members unless they're public within the profile. The way it is set up now, the Rangers copy the email from the post and send it to whomever is on the list using the Mayor email account.

The email to newest Members will go out on Friday. I'll post a list at that time, as I've been keeping track of it. I just wanted to give people a change to get here, and once a week seems a reasonable frequency for the greeting and eligibility letters.

Btw, I went to move the Jury Pool list and realized that I am still locked inside MIchel Delving! You'll have to let me out so that I can post in the Jury Room and Bike Racks.

Hmmm...I'm only a temp ranger but I suppose I can help out since noone else seems to be around.

Basically the Mayor needs to be able to post in the Jury Room and Bike Racks and that's it? I'll go make the changes. :)

edit: I see Nin got there first. I have a feeling I'm not going to be doing anything. :P

Too late :P

I know the feeling, Eru, this is why I jumped on the opportunity.

I would not mind sending the mails either - but did the Rangers ever get the info how to access the Mayor's e-mail, or do you just want a list of those e-mail adresses?

ah! - I just took Moonfariegalena off the email list because we completed the conversation about this by PM.

If you haven't sent the email yet, no need to send it to her.

Thanks for letting me out, Nin - and thanks to Eru for trying!

The info on the mayor's account is in the sensitive info forum. :)

Why don't you and Eru share the task, it's quite a lot of mails to send? (While I lean back, and have a drink. :P )

If I knew how to get to the Mayor email account, I would. :P

If anyone wants to tell my via PM, I'll be more than happy to start emailing people. :)

Edit...think I figured it out.

edit no. 2: Okay, starting to email folks. Is it okay if I do it with one email to multiple addresses?

Not sure how this e-mail is set up - I've seen some which didn't give all the recipients' addresses - but normally, this would show everybody the addy of everybody else.
I don't think that's so good. But let's hear what Jny thinks. :)

I didn't think about that. I'll do separate emails then.

Thank you so much, you guys!!!

Yeah, when multiple emails go out the recipients should not be able to see one another's addresses. On my home account I can do it that way - have never tried to do it with a Yahoo account. But I'll look into it because there's going to be mass emails like this every week from now on - greetings to new members and eligibility notifications. It would be crazy if you had to send each of them individually.

How does the system work, generally, though? If it can be done as one mass email with addresses concealed, is it convenient to copy the form letter and the list from this thread and mail it from yahoo?

We're having to review some of the other Mayor procedures because they're not working out as expected. If this one needs to be made easier as well, now is the time to think about it.

I don't know how to conceal each address with yahoo. So what I did was copy the subject line and then the message. Then I went and found an email address, hit send, then hit back, found the next email and inserted it. So it only took me maybe 5 minutes to do that list.

Now for huge mailouts...that could be a problem. All I could think of doing is dividing it up between rangers.

Oh, and are you checking the mayor email account for notifications of PMs? There were four emails regarding new PMs in the account. I wouldn't think you'd need email notification.

Yikes - I didn't think about that. I sign on as Mayor and pick up the PM's every time I'm online here, so I have gotten and answered all of them unless one came in the last hour or so, but I didn't realize that notifications were going to the email account as well. That doesn't happen with my Jnyusa account.

Is there a way to shut that feature off? Yes, of course, in the profile there must be a way to do it.

I've got a moment now and I'll look at the yahoo mail features and the Mayor's profile and try to get everything spiffy.

OK, I fixed the profile thingie ... and also set it so that the Mayor email addy shows. Let me see how that works.

edit: well, the profile does not look different. the Mayor email addy doesn't appear there. When I click on the email box, it just gives me a window for sending the email, doesn't tell me where the email goes. Is that the way it's supposed to be? Or should members be able to read the addy somewhere?

Should I put the mayor email addy in the signature box?

Ack - these two id's are making me feel schizophrenic. I went through the yahoo options and could not find an answer under address book lists. It might be that the only way to find out is to create a list and launch the email. That might be the point at which the 'invisible' box appears to be checked off.

What do you guys do for the global emails from the administrator account?

Thanks you guys for taking care of this. I've been scrambling at work all day.

To send an email to multiple addresses from the Yahoo account, we should be able to bcc: each addressee and each individual would not see the different email addresses.

Ta-Ta!! So-LU-tion.

Thanks, Voronwe.

And there's no point in creating a list, is there, because the group is going to be different every time. So that must be the most efficient way to do it.

(I can see us getting tired of this notification process real fast. I'm afraid it will end up being more work for the Rangers than for the Mayor.)
