I voted 7 days, but I second (third?) Jny's idea of telling people it could be up to 10 days.
If it's very undecided after 7 days, that would give us the option to call on some more people to vote or so.

I haven't voted at all - not here and not in any of the invite threads.

Call me conflicted, but personally I haven't come to terms with the implications of a closed board, invitations and voting. I know it's a democratic process but I feel uneasy and therefore am not participating in this aspect of the community.

Yeah, I know - I tie myself up in knots! It's a specialty of mine. There's an old story that if you get two Jews talking, you get three opinions. Well, I manage to generate a whole lot of opinions all on my own.

That's your right, Impenitent. You're not the only one who is not 100% comfortable with the voting system. There are different ways to live with it. And yours is a good as anybody elses.

Well, i would have voted for 7 days but i thought it'd be easier for people who were travelling or away for a week or so, but who wanted to vote if we waited for 10 days. So that's what i went for. And i've got to say, it's a really close one......

Jny's idea was good. I agree with it.

So what are we to do about this? Only 14 members felt that this vote was worth voting in and the vote is incredibly close?

Personally, I'd like to see more response from members at this board. A democracy can only work if you actually take part. This apathy is quite frustrating.

I voted for 10 days.
Seems to work ok so far... I dont think its "too long"; I agree with Leoba's idea about 10 days giving most people a chance to see the thread and vote regardless of a heavy week or a short holiday :)

I really couldn't decide on this (therefore didn't vote). Then, I saw Eru's thread about apathy, and decided to jump one way or another.

Seven days should be enough for most people, but for the more controversial/problematical ones, I think we really need ten.

I think ten is safe. I have this worry about weekends.

Do we agree that 7 days is enough for people that get all "yes" (and maybe the odd "don't know"), but no "no", such as Amarie, Demo and Iavas?

With all due repsect, Berhael, the poll at the top of this thread suggests (at the moment) that it should be ten days.

I have a strange problem with the concept of allowing some people in after 7 days and making others wait 10. It should be the same for everyone. Sure there are some individuals who a handful of very vocal people think would waltz in unopposed, but that doesn't alter the fact that a minority may disagree. Given that votes do seep in at the last minute, it's important for everyone here to know exactly how long they have to get their butts to the polls.

Even if I voted seven days, I agree with you, Leoba, that the majority should prevail. And the laws be the same for everybody.

Ten days seems awfully long for me, but as the majority wants it, I'll bow to their will.

Ten days of thread, I mean, not ten days of vote.

It's a very close vote. How about we split the difference? ;)
And you don't owe any respect to me, don't be daft. :P

What exactly is a majority?

In light of recent events, I wouldn't say we had a majority here.

I think it would be silly to split the difference, because 8 1/2 days is tricky to work out given timezones etc.

The majority appears to be ten days, and I would say that even for the ones where we all have 'yes' votes, just in case.

How about this for a compromise:

Three given to m00bies, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven for the Talk/Manwe forums, great miners and craftsmen of their posts. And nine, nine days are gifted to the invites of RPers, who above all else, desire multiple IDs and really long weird posts.
