Alandriel, I've understood from my first day here that invite threads are deleted. That's the understanding under which we all posted in them. I don't think it should be subject to a vote—the threads that discuss inviting specific people should go, as was promised. Not to do it would be unfair to everyone who was honest in those threads, believing it could never hurt the person concerned.

I think the general procedure threads—anything without discussion of specific people—could just be archived invisibly for now.

I agree with Hobby. I don't think any further vote is necessary on this. As far as I am concerned, there is a clear consensus that the invite forum should go.

Well, I guess if you all think we do have a consensus without actually doing a poll, I'm sure I don't have any objections seeing all this go - for good!

Was just asking.... ;)

Perhaps then in preparation pretty much all threads should be locked and a new announcement should go up here. Something along the lines of Invites forum scheduled for distruction on day x, speak now or forever hold your peace

... you know.... just do it a bit more 'by the book' ;)

Thanks anyway, and sorry for bugging you all on PM about this.

Well, I took a quick look around, and actually I don't see a single thread worth saving. So, yes, perhaps this should be locked up and have a demolition date posted—say the 25th? Not that it matters.

On Demo Day we should also remove any invite-related threads left in the hidden admin storage, if there are any—I haven't peeked in there in a long time.

We should warn people to be prepared to lose post count. Some were upset the last time a big deletion was done.

I don't mind whether the procedure discussions are just archived or deleted, too, but definitely yes to an announcement so that people can object.

25th is fine by me.

Is there any reason not to post an announcement right away? That gives people time to poke around in here and see if there's something they want to save for themselves for some reason, and it lets people talk about it if they need to.

Also, where should it go? Business is pretty clogged.

:D Fab... looking forward to seeing a destruction announcement

Business is clogged up pretty good as you say Prim. But perhaps a mention in this announcement AND changing the Forum description (that should get some attention too?) ;)

PS: and while you're at it, can you please unsticky an old (!!) thread I started and Leoba edited later on? this Not needed anymore and will help de-clutter :)

Well, I've scurried around a bit. I unstickied that thread, Alandriel. I also locked every thread in Invites but this one, and posted in the announcement thread you linked to in Business. I've changed the forum description to "SCHEDULED FOR DELETION ON JUNE 25."

Does that cover it?

One note of caution. I do think that some kind of history of invites at board77 should be preserved. Not the specifics regarding individual invitations (or non-invitations), of course, but a history of how the process came into being, and why it was ended in March, and (most importantly) why no one was invited to join up for almost four months. I think that is one question that will be important to new members, and I think our culture of respect, openness and equality demands that we share this information with them.

I would be willing to prepare a draft of such a history before the threads are deleted (for people to then suggest edits to), if people think that is a good idea.

Vornwe:

You might also want to possibly co-ordinate with laureanna. She kind of mentioned she might attempt to do a 'history' thread like I did (from more or less where I left off). Then it could all come together. However, if a compilation does not happen (sorry, but I'm not going to volunteer for something like that a second time) then it would be very kind of you to do it for invites.
How the process came into being is visible from the old compilation thread (at the very bottom of this forum). Adding to that how the end came would be great indeed... .. or have a second history thread.

Voronwe, that is an excellent idea! I wouldn't have thought of it, but you're right—we really do need that explanation for new members who've been waiting. If it could be combined with Alandriel and laureanna's efforts into some kind of history thread, that would be great, too.

We've got a couple history threads at this point - the B77 history in Business, and now this one, and the ballot archive and all the convention threads ... maybe we could have a HistoryArchive where all this stuff could go.

If we decide to lock the TORC threads, perhaps they could be moved there as well, unless you feel that that's a different kind of history and doesn't belong in the same place. (Although the manner in which so many of us landed here like beached whales is an historical fact.) ;)

p.s. it would be funnier if the marquee under the thread read "scheduled for demolition"

Those look good to me, Eru. I would support archiving them in the open archive.
