Mahna mahna at 50!

The article contains many fascinating facts about this muppet hit - including that the song was originally written by Italian composer Piero Umiliani.

And that it originally appeared in a steamy film about Swedish sexuality :Q

I don't know about any others, but I always assumed that it was written by the muppet staff.

But... it's not nearly as funny if you don't know it's an actual song!

It's already funny enough if you don't know. So it must be almost supernaturally hilarious to those of you in the know :P

I think it's funnier if you realize that the male Muppet is not messing up the song but performing it as written. And also that Jim Henson was watching an Italian soft porn film and went, "You know what would be great? If the Muppets did this."

Wait.

Is it possible that you also have missed the greatest music video of the 70s?

It's interesting how the drugs from the 70s seem like they were so much more fun than modern drugs.

I have great memories of dancing to that song in the summer camp. You never heard it?

For all the talk about the Iron Curtain, it seems that we were on the less isolated side. We had German, Italian, French, UK and US songs and movies, not to mention Bollywood and the Warsaw Block, plus the pretty diverse stuff from the various Soviet republics. Americans... Even the British had to invade. [emoji14]

From the Toronto Symphony:

"Sending love to everyone in Toronto and across the world. No matter what distance keeps us apart, we’ll still find ways to make music together and celebrate the gifts of spring."

An innovative way to get together and make music and still be safe!
