Din, we have Green and Black even here in Alaska.

Hersheys is grainy, but when I need a fix, it will do. Dark chocolate has more chemicals, so I use it when I want more of a rush for a small amount. Milk chocolate is more soothing. One of my office mates has a candy dish filled with Dove, which is just what I need about 3 PM.

The more cacao, the bigger the effect. As you get into the 70% range some people start having, um, psychotropic reactions. :D

Oh, I thought you meant chemical as in 'additive'. Well, I'm a fan of Lindt 70% bars.

And my homemade truffles have a much higher percentage than that! :D

Eruname said-You could also hope some chocolate fairy from Europe sends you some if they get your address! :P

Mmmmmm...European chocolate fairy.

And I see that Rodia offered to take on that delectable job :)

Idlle, I'm sure that getting to know you will be time as well spent as eating expensive chocolate :D

Godiva chocolate = overated (from what I can remember)

Cadbury, Ghirardelli, and Fanny May are the one's that I've had that I prefer.

Something tells me that I can't take all of your guys' words about how good some of these chocolates are....I might have to experience them for myself in order to judge, you know purely for scientific purposes

I think a list is in order :D

And while we're on the topic...
http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns ... ade/cocoa/

I've started googling for fair trade information about everything I buy now...makes it extremely hard to shop, but I guess it's all about good habits.

Speaking of fair trade I'm going to see Coldplay tomorrow do you suppose he'll speak of fair trade and chuck chocolate bars into the audience? ;)

Ax, no KIDDING! I swear, I am such a junky at heart... this is probably why I LOVE dark chocolate! (I am SO glad I never tried illegal drugs... the darned LEGAL ones get me into enough trouble...)

Sidonzo, when my daughter was about seven she looked up at me with her big brown eyes one day and said solemnly, "Mommy, sometimes I just NEED chocolate!"

She's such a girl... :D

And Jude makes homemade TRUFFLES????

America. does. have. good. chocolate!!! :Q Hershey certainly isn't it, but Hershey is not the only one (although it's quite nice going near the factory in Hershey, PA where it at least smells like good chocolate). Gertrude Hawk chocolate is divine (for american chocolate) Much, much creamier and better than the abomination Hershey calls chocolate.

Here's proof! Proof, I say! I sent some over to Pips along with some Reese's, and I quote from a PM from her...

"The big round posh-type peanut butter chocolate round things
LUSH. They were like a subtle version of Reese's, with creamier, thicker chocolate. Mmmmmmmmm."

:D :D

Only found in PA, NY, and NJ.

And as an afterthought, has anyone every tried the Hershey's Symphony chocolate bar? It's more bearable than the typical Hershey bar.

I think I'm in love.

I will PM you my address, crazy girl, and I think that is SO cool that you would do that for me!!!1

:Wooper:

Hey, you know what I did today at work? Beside work, of course?

I ate a donut for breakfast.

A chocolate donut.

With chocolate glaze.

.

.

.

And IT WAS AWESOME!!!!

Of course, now all I can eat for the rest of the day is salads, because it was like a billion calories, but....

it was GOOD.

:horse:

Thank you, Liddy, for starting this thread about chocolate. :halo: Without your encouragement, I probably would have passed that little treasure RIGHT up.

Are you bringing the Austrian and German contingents into the mix here?? :suspicious:
Yes!!1 My mother, who grew up in Austria, always brings me Milka chocolate whenever she visits her family in Austria. It’s readily available in the States now, but somehow it tastes better just knowing it came from “home”!

Another Austrian treasure I am partial to is Mozartkugeln, a ball of marzipan coated in dark praline cream followed by light praline cream and finally dark chocolate. To. Die. For!

Mozartkugeln

Ghirardelli is quite good for American chocolate.

You only had one? What kind of iron will fortitude does it take to stop at just one chocolate glazed chocolate donut? I wouldn’t know.
