Aragorn and the company are attacked by Wargs near the Moria Gate. The morning after the battle the bodies of the dead wargs have disappeared, leaving behind undamaged arrows expect for the one that caught on fire as it flew.

So, where did these magic wargs come from and why didn't Sauron have a whole army of them at Minas Tirith?
Possibly the whole thing was a hallucination imposed by the malevolent Caradhras? Or Saruman? Or Sauron?

Come up with a better theory before you sneer at mine. :P

I have thought about this over the years and haven't really come up with an answer.
The only thing I can come up with is this;
Quote:
Werewolves
Enchanted servants of the Dark Lord
Dread servants of Morgoth in wolf-form. Werewolves were especially associated with Sauron, who indeed took the shape of a great wolf himself at least once.

Always a mistake in this thread. ;)

They're not real people. Firstly, they're fictional characters, which makes them imaginary people. But setting that aside, I'm also inclined to believe that they are cartoon characters. I can't remember off the top of my head how many fingers they have, but if it's four that's a dead giveaway that they are cartoon characters and thereby inhabit the "cartooniverse". If they have five that's still no guarantee that they're not cartoon characters, as there are other indicators that they inhabit the cartooniverse. Like a cat that talks and drives a car and stuff. And the talking fish is also suspect.

Yes, at least three. We've actually identified 5 worlds - Horton's world, the Who's world (a.k.a. the "Whoniverse"), the dustspeck within the Whoniverse, the Cat in the Hat's world and our own. Three of these may or may not be the same world (i.e. the CitH may exist in our world, which exists on the dustspeck in the Whoniverse.)

Or maybe not.

I have no idea. But I couldn't help but notice that you mentioned "serious Tolkien people".
I think you've got the wrong forum. :P

Alatar, seriously, I have no idea. I think Tolkien wanted wargs in there somehow and just sort of blundered it about. I could go look it up in the papers and notes books bit but frankly, I could not care less. Fantasy wargs, real wargs who could not be killed, whatever. At least it was better in the books than it was on film.

It wasn't in the film at all!

Unless you have some super-extended-extended edition that the rest of us don't know about...

:poke: :poke: :salmon:

Did I specify THAT scene? I said Tolkien wanted wargs in his books, and then went on to draw a comparison to Jackson's filmed version of wargs. IMO, Jackson got wargs wrong, they looked like rabid hyenas and that stupid scene with Aragorn during the trek to HD just really sucked, especially with him going ass over into a river off of a cliff and waking up with a horse kissing him thinking it was Arwen.

The Monteverdi song I'm practicing now is strangely appropriate :Q

Begl'occhi, all'armi, all'armi!
Io vi preparo il seno;
Gioite, gioite di piagarmi
In fin ch'io venga meno.
E se de' vostri dardi
Io resteró conquiso
Feriscano quei sguardi
Ma sanimi quel riso.

Why? Because it makes no sense to most of us?

Begl' eyes, all' you arm, all' you arm! I prepare you the breast; Gioite, gioite of piagarmi In end ch' I come less. And if de' your darts I resteró conquiso They hurt those looks But you heal that rice to me.

I love Babelfish. :D It's even more fun when you put it through more languages:
Quote:
Begl' ; Eyes, all' ; Weapons, all' ; Weapons! I prepare you the center; Gioite, gioite de piagarmi EN fin ch' ; I come less. And if de' ; Her arrows I resteró conquiso Qu' they injure this views, but sanimi this rice.

Does anyone remember how to do this? :help:

Okay, I found it - after creating two identical threads, and then moving one extra post by accident and then moving it back again. Sorry for osgiliating your thread, Liddybaby!

To get back to the topic - how are things in Chicago?

Can a heterosexual man have a "mancrush" on a woman?
What if she happens to be a lesbian?

Because I have a huge mancrush on Rachel Maddow.

No, but I have joined the "I have a slight crush on Rachel Maddow" group on Facebook.

But only because they don't have an "I have a mancrush on Rachel Maddow" group and I'm too lazy to start one.

Weird coincidence.
Just a couple of days after I posted this, I got an email from the moderator of that Facebook group saying that he had changed the name from "I have a slight crush on Rachel Maddow" to "I have a slight (or major) crush on Rachel Maddow".

At least I hope it was a coincidence.
