Oh my.

I really could not have survived if I had had to stand outside for 5 hours. (That's what it ended up being.) The people working at our church's live nativity site had 1/2-hour or 1-hour slots. My friend, J, and I worked for 5 hours straight. Fortunately, we were able to move inside the town hall theatre building, which was chilly but much, much warmer than outside. So I was thanking God for that blessing!

And our animal person, who was bringing sheep, backed out at the last minute. (She was sick.) I happened to think of Katie's horseback riding teacher and, though I figured it was a long shot, being last minute and all, I asked her if she could come or if she knew of anyone who could come. She did! And she brought 3 alpacas! (What? There might have been alpacas at the manger. You never know! It was Jesus' birth, after all.)

So the holiday walk was a success despite the frigid temperatures. (It's so cold it's painful. I was outside for bits at a time, and it hurt to breathe.)

15F? Brrrrrr! I haven't seen 15F in twenty years, and I don't miss it!
Lali, glad you could get inside. Get lots of warming fluids. :)

I'm really still cold. I should drink some tea. Or maybe hot cocoa with Irish cream liqueur in it.

Definitely too cold! Brrr!

Our first major snowfall of the season is just starting. We're expecting about 15cm.

Commuting tomorrow will be a nightmare. I've already told them that I'll be working from home until rush hour is over.

We had some snow last night and today but just enough to coat the ground a bit.

I hope it's not too crazy there, Jude!

I'm sure Jude will be ashamed of me but today I've turned on the heat for the first time. The weather has finally cooled and I woke up to a 59F house. Yes, that's darn cold down here. Brrrr!

Well, that's cold for any house. I like the house to be in the 70s. I'm freezing if it's below 68F.

So you're not getting judged by this Ohioan. Who is currently parked in front a space heater.

I keep mine about 61F. The problem here is, these old wood frame houses here tend to not be insulated, and forced air heat means that the house is only warm while the heat is running. So even when the weather is well above freezing, I have to have heater on.

We've insulated the attic and the parts that we remodeled, and it made a lot of difference.

I'm very cold-blooded. :( I just can't help it.

On the bright side, I don't feel the need to turn the A/C on till it gets up around 85 or 90F. My people start squawking if it's over 83F.

Sheesh. Is that sort of weather unusual?
Not unusual for this time of year, but they are rather tightly wound so if you're in the area where they hit, it's like hell unleashed. But you could be 5 km away and get hardly any rain.

Today it's raining and a cool 20°C. Yesterday this time it was sunny and a hot 35°C. No storms at least near me last night though.

Wow. I had seen Pearly Di post about it affecting Wales. I didn't realize it was affecting so much of Europe, though. :(

On the way to work this morning, I felt cold. Really cold. This concerned me, because I am normally a pretty cold-hardy individual, and this is something I'm proud of. Yesterday's weather report said Monday night's lows would be the in the mid 20s, and that really isn't bad; certainly it shouldn't be a problem as long as it's not windy and I'm all coated up. So I checked the weather report when I got in just to make sure, and it was 3. I feel better now.

:) I guess temps partly by how quickly my eyelashes and the hairs inside my nose freeze.

We've had everything from rain to ice to snow, lately, Lows are supposed to be in the teens this week, and the highs are barely getting above freezing.
Dare I hope for a white Christmas?

I saw an unusual sight driving in to work this morning: in the clear, minus-thirty weather, I saw an almost vertical rainbow off in the distance. We don't normally see it in the winter at all, and not usually when the skies are clear and sunny. I don't know how it was caused, but it was a very striking sight.

Sun dog! It might have a different name because it was vertical, but they're caused by ice crystals in the air refracting sunlight. I see them in clouds all of the time. Very pretty! :)
