Yes, that time of year where the highs get down to a cool, crisp 89F. :sunny:

We had some days like that about a week ago. Now they are highs in the low to mid 70s. Wonderful. It's too chilly most of the time for mosquitoes to be out.

We had a huge thunderstorm last night - tons of water and very close thunder and lightning. Today, it was warm, even freakishly warm. We're supposed to get another storm as a cold front moves in.

It's been quite hot here, too, but I'm still enjoying it. It is raining now, though, and that is also nice.

We're having the same changeable weather - we suddenly returned to summer this week (humid and highs in the mid-80s, which brought back a few of the mosquitoes). But the highs are supposed to drop to the lower 60s and upper 50s after that.

It is NOT raining here, which is very nice. For some reason, we've had a lot of heavy rains this fall.

We had storms last night and then continuous rain since then. Still raining now. It was lovely for sleeping (with the windows open), and I slept a lot later than I should have because of it. (I do love sleeping with the windows open when it's raining outside.) It's cold now, though.

The weather today is the kind that makes me start to feel exited about the new Tolkien soundtrack and movie that will be arriving soon, and then I get sad. :(

I'm assuaging my grief by listening to the Towers soundtrack while I work. Still my favorite, I think.

Which movie is arriving soon, and what are you exiting?

Fall does always seem the right time for the LotR soundtracks. I often listen to the Fellowship and Return of the King CDs around this time, when the trees start to turn. (I tend to skip The Two Towers.)

It does stir up a nostalgia for those years past when we were in the height of our LotR glory. Sigh. I sense a binge coming on.

ETA: I have just now realized one of my language blind spots. I spelled height correctly, but then I had second thoughts because I sometimes say it "heighth." Heighth is not a word, people. Yes, there's width and depth, so you'd think there would be heighth. But nooooo. No heighth. Just height.

:nono:

Lots and lots of people where I work pronounce it "heighth," but I had never ever heard anyone do that before coming here. Weird (they also like to say "fawnt" for "font." Like a baby deer).

How do you pronounce font? I think my pronunciation is like what you described being wrong.

I think I kind of pronounce it that way too. How do you think it should be pronounced? (Yeah. Fawn, rhymes with lawn, plus a T equals font.)

Maybe heighth is a Midwestern thing.

There's not really any wrong when it comes to pronunciation, but until I moved here, I never heard anyone say anything other than "fahnt" (rhymes with wont (not won't) and font of every blessing).

Hmmm. There's no difference, Dave.

Wont sounds almost just like want, just a teeny bit less nasally. And, if I'm saying them fast, there's probably no difference at all.

Font (typeface) and font (of every blessing*) are the same. And they are basically fawn with a t at the end.

*Thanks. I'll be singing that all night now. :suspicious: **

**This is an improvement, however, over the other song I've been singing all day:

Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin'. Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread.

Whereas for me, font and faun do not rhyme. One is a short O, the other a long Aw. This is why accents don't work on the internet. Every word I can think of that is pronounced like font will get that same long aw in most American accents. Even the word On, you Guys pronounce as Awn.
