Whereas for me, font and faun do not rhyme. One is a short O, the other a long Aw. This is why accents don't work on the internet. Every word I can think of that is pronounced like font will get that same long aw in most American accents. Even the word On, you Guys pronounce as Awn.
Precisely. Apparently I'm a bit Irish after all.

ETA: Are we running into the cot/caught distinction (or lack thereof) here? As I recall, the boundary for that thing runs right between Michigan and Indiana/Ohio.

Edit again: Pretty close

I don't actually say on as awn, at least not that distinctly. Freddy does. The people around here often do, but I'm from Cleveland, which has a Chicago-esque accent. So on is a bit closer to the short o sound for me (with quite a bit of nasal in it). Most of the time anyway. :LMAO: Maybe I've finally been corrupted by this damn accent around here.

:bawl:

(Actually, my real accent shines through most of the time, when I have to talk loudly, and when I'm talking to/visiting my friends and family in the Cleveland area. But I have to try hard to resist the drawl around here. It's some annoying amalgam of Ohio plus Kentucky; I don't mind a Southern accent if you're really from the South. I don't a Southern accent from almost any other Southern state, but the Kentucky Southern accent is so exaggerated and ridiculous! I often wonder if they felt the need to compensate for being, in fact, so far north. But don't get me wrong. The state of Kentucky is nice, and most of the people are too. The accent just grates on my ears.)

We have snow!

And apparently south of Ottawa it's a white-out with multiple collisions.

Cot and caught are two different words to me. I'm in the red zone there.

Snow! Whoa. It's not unheard of here by now, but it always seems too early to me.

We have rain and that is sufficiently confounding. But very welcome, after the last several years.

Wow; I see a 13F on the Ontario/Quebec border. I know it's Canada, but that seems awfully cold for this early in the season.

That is cold! You can keep that up there, thank you.

Still relatively balmy here for almost November...dry and sunny today so far at 16 C/61 F (that's the only conversion I can remember because the numbers just reverse!) Not exactly Halloween weather though at least it will be dark enough as our clocks went back on Sunday...

We'll be having a rainy Halloween. Too bad, this is the first time in years that my son is going to be home and I was looking forward to giving out candy with him.

At least this year we have a new door. Last year, it stuck like an eldritch portal in the rain.

You need an Igor to work on the door to get the squeak just right.

Oh wait, you got one!

We're having a colder and snowier winter than usual this year. Is that the same where you are?

It is now! It's still early enough that it could turn around, though.

I would say, overall, no. It just recently got cold here, and we've dodged any snow accumulation besides a dusting.

After all the snow we already got, we just had another 20 cm dumped on us overnight, and it's been lightly snowing all day.

All schools in the city are closed for the day. Ottawa schoolkids are happy!

It's been milder than usual here. I had a rose bush that had buds and was going to bloom again until last week. Usually they've gone into winter dormancy by the end of October.

It is 4F (-16C) here today. :( That is too cold, people. And we did get several inches of snow, which is pretty.

We have rain, which is good and fairly normal. No sign so far of temperatures falling. Same 50s that we often have in the summer. Used to be, I needed a winter coat for at least two-four weeks around the new year.
