There was a big storm here last night- lots of wind and hail and rain. Fortunately, the hail doesn't seem to have dented the cars. I was worried about the VW. We are supposed to turn it back in next week for the big VW diesel scandal buyback thingy. I don't know what would happen if the car was hail damaged before hand, without time to get insurance to fix it first.

I'm glad you avoided that hassle.

We had storms here, too. I can recall waking up at least 3 times, so I think we had 3 different storms move through. Or maybe just 2. I don't think we had hail, but I could be wrong. March definitely came in like a lion, though!

We are back to the season when I just shut up about our weather so as not to upset people. :halo:

Yeah, but we have lightning and thunder. And that's usually pretty cool. :P

So yesterday we had:
- Brilliant blue skies
- Piles of gorgeous clouds
- Dark and foreboding clouds
- Drizzle
- Driving rain
- Hail
- Sun again

All in the time it took us to have brunch.

Last night there was a strong line of thunderstorms sweeping across the whole middle of the US.

When we turned on the TV, they had continuous storm coverage broadcasting. There were several areas in Missouri with very high probabilities of tornadoes depicted, along with their probable routes. One of them pointed directly at us.

We spent the evening alternating between watching the TV weatherman urging everyone in the path to take shelter and going outside to watch the storm approach. The TV guy said once that there's no point in going outside. It's dark! There's nothing to see.

Not so. Lightning was so continuous that I could see the approaching front quite clearly. A warm wind was whipping everything in sight, but no funnel clouds. I stood there, my hair streaming out behind me, completely in awe of the massiveness of the approaching storm. Then the wind got cold and rain started to hit. I called the dogs in and we went inside.

The TV broadcast was flickering in and out in that weird crawling pixilation that digital broadcasts do. We watched the rain turn into hail and then the fast moving storm was past. We stepped outside again and heard a loud rumbly noise to the south of us, but as neither of us have heard a tornado before, we didn't know if it was that or just continuous thunder.

The next day we looked for tornado damage south of us, but didn't see any.

It was quite a storm.

Wow Maria!

I was going to post this in funny pictures, then I reasoned it would work here just as well...one for Jude!

Ah, the joys of spring.

In our case, it was a huge drop in temps - from daytime highs in the 50s and 60s, and nights in the 30s or above, to days in the 30s and 40s and nights in the lower teens. The worst part is that the warm temps had encouraged some plants, like the star magnolias, to start blooming. Those blooms are now brown mush.

Oh what a shame, inky...my star magnolia has lovely fat buds on it - we have the usual changeable weather at the moment with lovely spring sunshine one day, the next one or two are drizzle all day, then another fine day, and so on. At least temperatures are fairly stable currently.

Our lilac bush has actually leafed out. :suspicious: The low on Saturday is supposed to be 18 F / -7.8 C. :( I may try throwing a blanket over it and see if that helps. This is only its second year of being large enough to bloom. I'd really like to see a good show of flowers this year.

My roses have started leafing out, but they are fairly hardy, as well as being quite close to the house. They'll probably be OK for a brief freeze.

Ours seemed to hit blooms much harder than foliage or unopened buds. My roses and lilacs have tiny leaves and they didn't seem to bothered at all, even though they had no protection. The roses are next to the house, but the lilacs are far away. I saved the buds (but not the flowers) on one star magnolia ('Leonard Messel'?) by covering it, but the ones on a white one were mostly destroyed. And the swelling buds on my flowering quince look fine even they had no protection.

We're getting another freeze, and probably snow, this weekend too.

Same here, inky, though today is warm and sunny. My daffodils are well on their way to full bloom. My pussy willow has catkins on it. (I know it's not right, but I usually just say that my pussy willow has pussies on it. :D Carry on.) My rose bush has some tiny leaves. The invasive honeysuckles in the woods are greening up; I haven't checked my lilacs yet. My forsythia is at full bloom, and I have no magnolias to check.

Minus 25 here tonight. Whee!

Has anyone read about Newfoundland? They've been having crazy winds: roofs ripped off houses, cars and trucks overturned, and power lines down, trees snapped, thousands of people still without power...

That's right, Missy! Just keep walking!

Doesn't *E* live out that way? I should send her a note on fb to check on her. She'd mentioned not having power, but I thought that was awhile ago.

Public Service Announcement: spring has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict. In the meantime, please enjoy the following 10cm of snow.
