That's terrifying! Yikes! I'm glad they were rescued and, yes, hats off to the first responders.

Finally, as of today - I have air conditioning.

Yes, I survived all the recent heatwaves without any air conditioning. *gasp*

Ewww, I used to live that way, but it is not fun when it gets awfully hot. I'm glad you have A/C again, and I'm sure the dogs are, too.

We had a tornado! (article with pictures)

We got lucky in my area of town - lots of branches blown off trees, but I don't see any damage to buildings.

Holy smokes, that looks awful. Do you often get tornadoes?

Hm, I wonder how Dunrobin got its name...

We almost never get tornadoes.

Dunrobin gets its name from Dunrobin Castle in Inverness, Scotland. "Dun" means a kind of hillfort.

Well, that's not nearly as much fun as I had hoped. I thought it was like Dunmanifestin.

So, it looks like the power is out for the whole west end. None of the traffic lights are working, and most of the shops are closed. Even Willow's favourite coffee shop is closed, which means she has to do without her fix of intoxicating coffee aromas and patrons going up to her and gushing about how adorable she is.

Oh my goodness! I'm thankful you're okay. Tornadoes are so scary! :(

We were due for some severe weather last night, but it missed up. Apparently, it went up your way.

Wow, thank goodness you are all ok, Jude. Brought back memories for me of our hurricane in 1 987...

It's now been confirmed that we had two tornadoes. There was also a third one a hundred miles west of Ottawa, in Calabogie.*

My work is pretty close to the centre of the tornado activity, so I heard a lot of "close shave" anecdotes today. One woman's two barns were destroyed. Fortunately her horse escaped unharmed and is doing well.

_____________________________________________________________
* For Frelga: "Kala" is the Greek word for "fine", or "beautiful", and "Bogie" is British slang for a booger. So Calabogie literally means "beautiful booger". This is of course irrelevant because the word actually comes from the Gaelic calladh bogaidh, meaning "Marshy Shore".

I like pretty booger better.

Edit: moved the rest of this post to where I meant to post it in the first place.

I've been sneezing far too much the past couple of days. And I rarely sneeze. It's rather disturbing. :suspicious: What kind of allergens can be about in late October?

I can definitely say that winter has arrived in Ottawa. We have a covering of snow that might be permanent, and we need extra layers of clothing and hats and mitts. Less enjoyably, it's getting dark too early - often before I even get home from work.

Same here, minus the covering of snow. We've only had a few flakes, though there's talk of freezing rain or something equally gross tonight. (I am not a fan of ice.)
