Alatar.... quick question. In looking at this moot, would I be wise to consider factoring in car-hire for the weekend? I was just thinking it might be helpful for getting out and about (or is everything accessible on public transport?).

Practically nothing is accessible by Public transport. It depends very much on what people want to do. Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, (and about 5 pubs) are withing a 5 minute walk. After that, you're looking at a bus or Taxi to Limerick or Ennis if you want shopping.

I would imagine that weekenders will be pretty much staying put, unless its worthwhile getting a bus to bring a gang to the Burren and Cliffs of Moher one day. People staying longer than the weekend would need a car. Then again, depending on how many people turn up, we could do the Burren etc in a few cars if we had them.

In other words, I'd suggesting waiting until we have a better idea of numbers before booking anything.

Alatar...I am now officially a "definite!" I booked my flight...there is only one cheap flight from Gatwick (it would be ridiculously inconvenient for me to get to Stansted) and so that's the one I got!

I'll be getting into Shannon at about 4:30pm on the Friday - leave at 1:00pm Sunday (earlier than I'd like, but them's the breaks!)

I await some word on accomodations!

The cottages we're looking at currently:

http://www.dreamireland.com/property/Ca ... 19597.html

These work out at about €459 per week for the 8 Bed, provided we don't run into the 31st. It's slightly cheaper fopr a weekend, but so little difference that it would be worth paying the extra to have flexibility.

Even with 8 people sharing one of these for only 2 nights the cost per head is less than €60. Those staying three nights or more are obviously getting an even better deal.

For those who prefer their own space, B&Bs are about €35 per night.

Hotel rooms start at about €69pps, but I may be able to get better deals than that if people are interested.

This would be such a lovely idea for me as well, but it has to stay only a dream. I hope you guys will be posting loads of piccies, 'cause not only that I would die to meet you all, and spend some days by your side, but I am inlove with Ireland as well. But ... :bawl:

Jae, what airlines / routes are you looking at? Is there no way to go from Rotterdam to Stansted and then onwards? (Except for some reason Transavia doesn't seem to do return tickets that week?! What's with that?)

I'm going to try and get myself sorted to book our tickets this week - possibly tonight when I should have the time to faff with the credit card. :)

EE, we'll send a postcard.

Jae, a german cheap-flight-site directed me to http://www.Transavia.com, too

EDIT
tried http://www.easyJet.com .
They've got flights from Amsterdam to Stansted and back for 73,86 EUR.
But they say it's only bookable up to march 24th..... :rage:
Anyway, it's worth a try.

Leoba, maybe that's why Transavia doesn't show a flight back on Sunday?

ah yes i could book a return ticket from either rotterdam to stansted or whatever and get another flight from there to Shannon.

But there's no way I can confirm if I am able to come so I can't book in advance :(

No idea why that is leoba  Silly Dutch logic perhaps

And thanks Areanor! :D I use those two most of the time. Would be really nice if I finally got th chance to meet you ( I still have that wonderful lamp and sheep mug you sent me  )

Alatar, you can add another two to the 'definites' list. :D

I just booked our tickets (same as Areanor was going for):
Quote:
From London Stansted (STN) to Shannon (SNN), Friday, 23 Mar 07, Depart London Stansted (STN) 08:15; Arrive Shannon (SNN) 09:40

From Shannon (SNN) to London Stansted (STN), Sunday, 25 Mar 07 Depart Shannon (SNN) 16:20, Arrive London Stansted (STN) 17:45
Neatly costing more in taxes and charges than the basic tickets themselves. Gotta love budget airlines. ;)

W00t! Do you intend staying in one of the cottages or B&B? Or have you any idea yet?

It depends what works out best value / is simplest to organise! If enough of us can co-ordinate to get a cottage then that looks like a good idea though. It says on the website (if I'm reading it right?) that the minimum stay is 2 nights at that time of year. Which could work just beautifully.

Are those cottages (that you linked to) to only decent ones within sensible distance of you/airport/places to go?

Well, I really do hope that flight is on time......
If Air Berlin is arriving at Stansted at 6.55, I've only got 80 minutes until Ryan Air departs at 8.15.
I'll try to check in online, so I won't have to meet the Check-in-deadline at 7.35........
Still there's a risk... ADRENALINE !!! YAY !!!!!

:D

I already freak out when I have one hour and a half between checking in and boarding :p

I really am a nervous wreck when I travel.

You are brave Areanor ;)

Please put me down as as a possible!

I wish it were 'definite' but I will be only two months into my new job, and well...you know. :D

I'll be flying over from Brums most likely!

Yay!
