You know you want to be a Ranger!

To apply, all you need is to be 18 years old, be a member in good standing and have four months of time to give us.

We've gathered up some information that may help you decide if you'd like to be a Ranger. :) It is in the Hitchhiker's Guide to Rangering.
For the fine print, go here----->How to be a Ranger

The complete Ranger Pool is located in the Business Room.

Still have questions?
PM any of the current rangers (listed in the signature below):

Neato keen Borry! It's been too long we need some fresh new faces, besides I think it's safe to say that tinwe and I have done our duty long enough :D

I'm impressed! I put this up a mere 12 hours ago, and we already have two volunteers. :)

What's the policy on applicants that don't have access to TOE? Would that be like giving them access without going through the vetting process? Or is it possible to create a ranger without access to TOE?

I'd be happy to volunteer if that's not going to be a problem.

I don't think that it should be. I checked the ranger handbook, and I couldn't find anything that says that you have to have access to TOE.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, though.

You need access to TOE to admit new Toe'ees.

There was some discussion about the TOE issue way back when. No, it is not a requirement for a Ranger to have access, however, when your permissions are set to Administrator, you will, by default, have access to it. Whether you go into it or not is then your decision, but you don’t have to. Prim had an issue with this when she was a Ranger, since she did not want access. She said she only went to the TOE index page on occasion to make sure nobody had started any threads with a title like “Die Mother****er”, which, naturally, somebody promptly did. :D

I volunteer, too. Actually, I don't think I ever un-volunteered, so my name should still be part of the pool. Just thought I'd say it again, in case you were starting over from scratch.

If moderating TOE is not a requirement, then why does the age restriction still apply?

I think because of what Tinwe said, that by turning on your permissions as a Ranger you're automatically given access to TOE whether you plan on using it or not.

I personally understand the age restriction, but that's because in my country I am not yet considered an adult - I think it's fair that I won't be able to be a Ranger until I become a legal adult here. I don't know how we would deal with laws in other countries.

Bah! What defines adulthood? There are pleanty of moronic childlike underachievers who are so-called adults!

I tried to volunteer a while back but no-one got back to me. Maybe that was a hint? :D

I'm not around much, but I assume that The Mary still has the PM I sent her a while ago expressing interest.

If not, well, I am still interested. :)

TM, see my post from earlier today in the Forum Management forum. We are trying to stagger the shifts so we don’t have all new Rangers at the same time. We already have three new ones, Leoba, Lily and Nin. So, if it’s ok with you, you and I will stay on until the end of December, then the next two people will replace us.

Pips, I’m sorry about the age limit. I’d be fine with letting you do it, personally. How’s this though - you’ll be 18 in, what, a little over six months? The truth is if we put you on the list now, your turn wouldn’t come up until after that anyway. So, how about we go ahead and put you on the waiting list, with a provisional “available after May 7" note? Would that be ok. We certainly need your help, if you’re willing.

Same goes for you, Elsha. :)

Lali and TWT, both of your names are on the current Ranger Pool list. The problem is, there are so many people on that list that aren’t here anymore that we really don’t know what to do with it. We’re trying to decide whether to scrap it and start over or keep it and update it.

Personally, I think those who are already on the list should go first, with priority given to those who haven’t served before. As it stands right now, the responsibility is up to the outgoing Rangers to find their replacement, since we are no longer using a Mayor to do that.

Right now, I would say that Cem and TWT are the next two in line (starting Jan 1), since they were already on the list (or should have been, in Cem’s case ;)) and haven’t served before. Next up will be Borry and Elian. We’re talking about four month terms now, so Borry and Elian would start towards the end of March. After that we would go back to the old list (or to whoever else new volunteers).

In the meantime, all of you are welcome to register at the Training Forum to play around with the controls and learn the ropes. Just let me know when you register and I’ll admin you.

Eta - Jude - let us know if you still want to volunteer. Like I said, you will have access to ToE with admin status, but it’s up to you whether you go into the forum or not.

Oh...we have upped to 4 month terms????
I know I suggested it, but I didn't know that it was going to be implemented. This shows how much that I have been paying attention.
Your plan sounds good, though, Tinwe. Unless one of you has gotten to it already, I will start organizing names so that it doesn't get out of hand.
