As some of you may know, one of my majors is Anthropology. So, right now I'm talking a cultural anth class, and yes, I am going to ask for help with my homework.
Here's the deal.
The big final project is to do an ethnography. I thought it might be neat (read: I had no other ideas and am too shy to go into a group I know zilch about) to do mine on internet communities -- e.g. Board77 and its cohorts.
Basically, I need to interview people, do some participant observation (read: spam), and then write up an eight page paper on my findings. If anyone is interested in being interviewed (preferably over phone, but IM works, too), or just wants to comment, query, flame, etc, please go right ahead, via post, IM, email, PM, smoke signal, telegram, or carrier pigeon. I'll just be sitting here taking notes.
I feel a bit awkward about this, to be frank. I've known some of you for quite a while and some of you not at all and some of you I know but you don't know me because I lurk, and it seems just a bit odd and maybe even awkward to pop up after lurking like mad and saying "By the by, you're now my research project!" (It's not like that. Really!) So, yeah. I hope you all don't mind. After pondering it a bit, it seemed unfair not to let people know that I'm working on this, so here it is.
Thoughts?
