So does anyone out there use video editing software regularly or even professionally? If so, what are your recommendations? It would be for a PC, not a MAC.

I have used Pinnacle Studio Plus and Magix Movie Edit Pro, neither of which I am thrilled with, though Movie Edit is infinitely better than Pinnacle. (I can actually do movie editing in Movie Edit; Pinnacle has practically no editing capabilities.) The big problem with Movie Edit is that it is unpredictable and full of bugs.

Just wondering, as my music minister is looking for something new for me to use. I don't think we can afford $700 for Adobe Premiere, but he's had the cheaper version recommended to him (Premiere Elements or something).

???

Thanks for any input.

Lali

I would offer an opinion but I don't edit videos.

So sorry. :(

I know. :( It was sort of a long shot. I know most of you all on here just do graphics stuff. (I mean, nothing wrong with that! I do, too. :) But I also do video creation. I didn't know if anyone else here did, too.)

Oh well!

I use Pinnacle, which you've already stated you don't like, so not much help from me. :)

Well, I like Pinnacle rather well for video capturing and plain Jane DVD creating. It doesn't seem capable of doing the detailed video editing like the other programs. Have you found that to be true?

For example, I can go into Movie Edit and:

add motion overlays (to make it look like a silent movie, swirly smoke, etc.)

move video frames up, down, sideways, flipped, mirrored, etc.

change colors on the video itself

very precise fade in/fade out, crossfades, plus about 100 other transitions

(Pinnacle has some, but I find there's very little control of how long they are, where they are, etc.)

change the play speed of the video (a portion or the whole thing); iow, add a slow-motion bit to just several frames or a larger portion

add text (I think Pinnacle can do this, too.)

Creating a DVD menu is easier in Pinnacle and allows you more flexibility.

I have serious audio control in Movie Edit, with a full sound board to adjust left/right channels, gain, echo, reverb, and all kinds of things I have no idea how to use.

etc.

Anyway, maybe I just haven't played with Pinnacle enough to know all that it can do. ?? I typically use it for creating DVDs from video we've taped during church. I used it this time to create the DVDs for the various Easter programs because I was getting glitches in some videos with the other program. (However, Pinnacle did this last night as well. :( ) I did not do any video creating with Pinnacle, just did a putting the movies into place-type of thing to create a DVD. Make sense?

Has anyone used Adobe Premiere Elements? That is one that was recommended to me.

You're trying to do a lot more than I do Lali. I just assemble clips together to make a more interesting reel from assorted bits and pieces.

Yeah, I have to; basically, I create music videos, for lack of a better term, to accompany songs our choir performs. I end up doing that from video clips we purchase and/or still photos. It requires a high degree of manipulation of the videos and graphics, especially to time things precisely to the music. Since the choir then performs along with the music on the DVD I create, the audio quality also has to be quite high. (That is something I am still learning how to control--with varying degrees of success.)

I am downloading a free trial of Adobe Premiere Elements. I'll give it a shot, though it looks quite similar to Pinnacle (very good but not exactly good enough).

I wish we could afford the Pro version. :( It's only $800!

So, it's two years later. What did you decide, Lali? :poke:

I've been using the trial version of Nero, which expires on the 24th. Actually, it's not as expensive as the software you mentioned upthread - I think it's less than a hundred dollars.

I have Premiere now, but I haven't gotten to use it very much. The few times I've had projects I simply did not have time to mess around with learning a new program. I should play around with it when I don't have any projects due, but then I forget.

I still like Movie Edit.
