Neither do I. I've never had cable in my LIFE. :P

But, I still have trouble finding time to watch anime.

Maybe this will be of interest, maybe it will not. I just scored an invite to the Joost Beta- it's this new tv-through-internet streaming program (where you can pause and pick shows etc). I'm testing it out, and one of the more interesting channels there is called Gong, and it's all anime.

I have unlimited invites to send, if you guys would like to check it out. I know I went *squee* when I saw an ad for Albator...though why it's called Gun Frontier and takes place in the Wild West instead of outer space, I have no idea...anyway, I'm hoping to catch it at some point.

So, if you want invites, lemme know.

Yes please! :D

Isn't Albator a name that was given to Harlock in translation? I could be making that up completely, but it sounds familiar somehow. If it's by Leji Matsumoto there are dozens of series featuring the same characters. I've watched the first few episodes of Galaxy Express 999 and didn't really get into it, but I thought what I saw of Space Symphony Maetel seemed better. :)

Ber, I've run out of subtitled episodes of Nana, so I tried Yakitake!! Japan.
I think I need to go and find some bread now. >.>

Gun Frontier was a 13 episode series from 2002. As a change of pace, it was a mostly comedy adventure series which featured W. Franklin Harlock Jr. and Tochiro Ōyama, distant ancestors of Captain Harlock and Tochiro, as they bumbled their way through the wild west 1880s in search of a lost tribe of Japanese immigrants. A similar old west looking planet named "Gun Frontier" appears in the "Cosmo Warrior Zero" series but it's not the same place as this story is actually set on Earth.

Yes that seems to be it! I'm clueless, I only saw the series in French...and he was Albator there. I watched Cosmo Warrior Zero last night but it seems to be yet another spinoff, not what I used to watch...or maybe it's the other way around. In any case I'm happy to see my only favourite anime character again. :D Ahh, nostalgia.

I need an email for the invite, pipster. You're pipstherealityimpaired, yes?

Indeed I am. :D
I could never properly get into Leji Matsumoto. Perhaps I should give it another go, especially if they've got Space Symphony Maetel- that one's much more recent and if nothing else it's really very pretty to look at.

Ro, I wonder if I could ask a huge favour? I know of two friends who've been having trouble finding decent quality sites for anime streaming. Their e-mail addresses are dragonvampire at hotmail.com and fancyrat55 at hotmail.com. If you have unlimited invites, would it be possible for you to invite those two as well? Pretty please? :D

The girls in those shows were always so HAWT. :D

So far there only seem to be four shows available on that channel:

Saiyuki- Paradise Raiders
Ikki Tousen
Cosmo Warior Zero
Gun Frontier

But as it's a beta, it might get better.

And I'll be happy to send the invites. :D

I'd love an invite too please Rodia! Not for the anime, but cause I'm interested in the process.

Well I watched the first 4 episodes of FMA last night. I do like it, but I think it will take me a few more episodes to get into it. Some of the soundtrack is just breath-takingly beautiful though! :D

I started watching Trigun today after Dawn showed me a picture of Vash and now this is what I am talking about! :D I fell in love with the show instantly and with Vash as well! :D I have to admit that the reason I avoided it for so long is that the idea of a anime western kind of set my teeth on edge. I adore it though...VERY funny and Vash is an AWESOME character! :D

My son has become very interested in anime - he's only had access to the DVDs available at the local video library though - Pom Poco and Spirited Away, and he's very intensively trying to learn to draw anime.

I'm wondering...is the material being streamed on that site suitable for a 10 year old? (Suitable as in not going to go right over his head? And not subtitles only? Obviously no raw porn either. :P) If you think a 10 year old would "get" it, could you send him an email invitation?

Impenitent - Studio Ghibli is responsible for Pom Poko and Spirited Away, and they have numerous other films that your son would probably enjoy.

A number of them have been mentioned elsewhere in the thread. If you go to IMDB and search on Miyazaki, Takahata or Ghibli you should see a good sample.

Brian, that sounds good! I think I might give it a go - I'd rather he streamed those than endless zombie killing spree animations.

Rodia! could you send an invitation to my boy? :D

Hey Ro, I never did get that invite. dragonvampire mentioned that the site wasn't compatible with her computer though, making me think you did send them. I know my e-mail address is easy to get wrong. Would you mind giving it another try? :)

I watched Tokyo Godfathers last week (The Mary recommended it). :D It was amazing! Brian, you like Satoshi Kon too, right? I did put Millennium Actress on my birthday list, but I didn't get given it. I did get a Death Note though.
