Hey Ro, I never did get that invite. dragonvampire mentioned that the site wasn't compatible with her computer though, making me think you did send them. I know my e-mail address is easy to get wrong. Would you mind giving it another try? :)

I watched Tokyo Godfathers last week (The Mary recommended it). :D It was amazing! Brian, you like Satoshi Kon too, right? I did put Millennium Actress on my birthday list, but I didn't get given it. I did get a Death Note though.

Yes, I am a fan of Kon's work, what I have seen of it

I haven't caught "Tokyo Godfathers" yet. It's on my list.

New on my personal list of Anime Better In English:

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya [Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu].

It joins: Cowboy Bebop.

Kyon's snarky little asides are about a million times funnier when you can detect every bit of inflection. Made of awesome and win, and I don't care that it's massively overhyped. :D

I prefer it in Japanese.

The original Kyon seems much more effective to me; nevertheless, the English dub of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" is an excellent dub, and does an excellent job in most regards. The English Kyon is good; I just prefer the original.

I also prefer the anachronological ordering, which the English dub does away with.

Yup, I prefer the original order. But I think even allowing for an insanely annoying Mikuru and a not-perfect Kyon, it's just hysterically funny hearing Kyon's moody fits so clearly. Maybe I should have a listen in Japanese again though - it has been a long time since I last watched it (I'm not a real Haruhiist, and I can't even dance Hare Hare Yukai). :P

It's something I've heard people say before about watching subs - that you can't appreciate the delivery as much - but I've never really noticed any difference for me up until now.

:LMAO:

That is the one problem with subs--having to pay close attention to the words.

I'm sure I would look silly dancing Hare Hare Yukai--the ribbon and sailor suit just wouldn't look right... :D

The zombies have done a few hilarious versions.

What's your whole list of Anime better in English Pips? (I probably missed it.)

The entire list?
-The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
-Cowboy Bebop

Trigun in English ties with the Japanese acting for me. Tenchi Muyo is also equal in either language, despite some sub-par acting (it makes up for it in hilarity).

That is all. :Wooper:

I've never, on the whole, preferred subs over dubs in a series.

But, I haven't really had a chance to compare.

Two weeks ago I had a chance to start Great Teacher Onizuka and...what exactly is the point of that anime? I quit after the first 20 minutes of the first episode (with a good excuse!) but it bugs me still. Does it make sense later on?

You know, I quit the anime after one episode too. I don't know why. I really want to watch it, because I could only afford the first book of the manga, and I enjoyed it a lot. There's not really much that's different between the two, so I figured it was just me when I found the anime so unappealing.

The manga was very promising. If the poster Onizuka Eikichi was still around I'm sure he'd have something to say about this. :P

Currently watching "Welcome to the NHK!" Very funny, but some degree of familiarity with Japanese culture (moe and erogames, hikikomori and tanabata) is probably essential to enjoy it fully. Actually, I take it back. "Welcome to the NHK!" could easily educate viewers in the subjects it features.

Also watching "Yakitate Ja-pan!!" [Ber's recommendation] "Bleach" [as always], "Revolutionary Girl Utena" [if I can get disc three working again] and "Nana" [also a favourite of Ber's, I believe in retrospect, and I'm still looking for the final episodes].

I have some pretty wide-ranging tastes. :help:

One of my friends keeps bugging me to watch Nana.

I might eventually. Maybe when I go to college and get a place of my own I will pay for super fast web access and downloading anime will get quicker.

I think you'd love Nana. :D Except even the butch guys are sort of pretty. Could you live with that? :P

Believe me they showed me in an attempt to get me to start it RIGHT then.

But no, I couldn't possibly live with it. *cough*

I'm bad at lying. :LMAO:

My neighbors are back so if I watch anime late at night I can't make verbal statements on the hotness level of anyone. :( This is quite sad since I haven't yet finished rewatching Death Note and L is still incredibly sexy. I say still, but it should probably be "way more sexy" instead of still.

:Wooper:

I just started watching Nana. I think the verdict is still out for me.

Episode one of the anime should have been episode five. I guess they were worried about losing dramatic tension, but... fail, srsly. Two-Three-Four-Five-One is how the first book of the manga goes, and from what I've seen the rest correlates very closely.

I didn't like Nana all that much to start with, but I'm very persistent. I didn't like Bleach until about episode sixteen. :blackeye:

On a side-note, do you recognise Osaki Nana's voice? [That's Dark Nana, if they're still giving you trouble]. It amuses me how little Paku Romi has changed her acting style from a role we're much more familiar with. :D

Okay...I'm off to download the beginning of Nana. I'll resist getting Blood+ and Devil May Cry for a bit. :LMAO:

I need a laptop. If I had one I could download episodes while I'm in town this afternoon.

I really hope you enjoy it. It sort of slowly sucked me in... completely falling in love with Shinnosuke probably helped. :D

The great thing about trying to find a fandom for Shinnosuke is that I tend to think of him as 'Shin-chan'. The famous Shin-chan is the main character from "Crayon Shin-chan"- crude, foul-mouthed, hilarious, innocent, five years old. My Shin-chan is none of these things.

Get a little further into the series and you'll find out exactly how non-innocent Shinnosuke really is. ;)
