The fourth and fifth of May.

Today and tomorrow Holland remembers the fallen from the second world war and of every war after that. Tomorrow Holland celebrates its freedom of which I am very proud.

The church bells have been ringing for a half hour, the trumpets are about to sound and a two minute silence is about to start. During these two minutes we remember and honour.

I just wanted to say this out loud and pay my respects :)

Well, this was definitely before my time, but my parents were small children during this period - my dad has memories of him and his family being on the run and bombers flying over...

A moment of silence for those who fought and those who fell, and those who are here to live in freedom because of that.

A lovely sentiment. :) It's good for people to remember the past....often I think it's not done enough.

For people as loud mouthed as we are it's an amazing thing we manage to be silent for 2 minutes :P

I didn't know that Holland observed its Remembrance Day today and tomorrow, but now that I do I will certainly pay my silent respects.

Well today is the remembrance but tomorrow is liberation day. It has become a good excuse to go to festivals and drink in public.

And thank you Elsha :)
