That was very enjoyable! I can't "like" it on facebook, but if they put it on youtube I could give it a thumbs up!

Okay, if no one else posts here, I'll make my fifth post in a row :P

A timely message from Frelga's Language Guy, who's in the U.S. right now:

That's actually already on my "watch later" list on youtube. :)

I think I'll bump it up in priority. :)

Yes, it's particularly pertinant to Tolkien and I wish we could confirm his usage of the term "blue" in a couple of cases: were the "Blue Wizards" both attired in the same shade of blue or was one more purple, or turquoise than the other?

Also, i doubt Dwalin's beard was actually 'blue' - more likely a steel grey, as in a "roan" colour definition...

That is interesting!

I've thought that for awhile. For example, this...

...is the Yellow Spring in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Only, I wouldn't call that yellow at all; it's very clearly orange to me. I think orange and purple have some of the same linguistic developmental history, in that, they weren't very well used until relatively recently. So orange was red or yellow 150-200 years ago and purple was blue. (I think I researched this once, but now I don't remember for sure.)

As a major color geek, I find it frustrating to be limited in my word choices for colors, so I appreciate the more accurate descriptions.

The wall of rocks looks orange to me, but I do see some yellow under the water.

I wonder if the stone is paler when it's dry? Could well be a more golden colour...

Nope. It's as orange as orange gets, and it's never dry because it's a spring. Obviously, the water is full of iron.

Oh well! I did look up the origin of Yellowstone (as in the National Park) on wiki and it appears it was translated from the name the local native americans gave the river "Rock Yellow River" so I guess we must assume that the indigineous peoples used their term for yellow in a wider sense than we do today...

Oh, that is interesting, nienna! I didn't even think about Yellowstone, and I didn't even think about the Native influence on the name choice for either place (Yellowstone or Yellow Springs). Hmmm.
