I like the pattern and I believe I saw that one when I was looking for a lace pattern to knit my mom a lace shawl. I just don't like the edges. I prefer a smooth edge. So I'm going to make the Sea and shells stole that's at the bottom of this page:

http://poshyarn.co.uk/patterns.html" target="_blank

I haven't knitted anything for a while. I just ordered some Cascade 220 wool and the Knit Pro interchangeable circs so I can knit a hat. It will be my first in-the-round project. Hopefully I'll finish it before I go skiing on March 15 so I can wear it!

The shawl looks very pretty, Eru. I hope you get on well with it and can enjoy it soon. Cascade wool looks very nice and I have seen most people use it to make their Roue jumpers, one I'd love to make as well sometimes. I just don't like that you're meant to only handwash it (though there are ways around that). Have fun with the lovely Knit Pro! :D

I don't mind the scalloped edges of my shawls so far - in fact they are easier to block that way. Any straight edges automatically turn out wavy since I don't yet have any proper blocking wires. That is something I really need to purchase at some point.

Today I packed all of my knitted items for England. Only my current project is still left outside the suitcase so I have something to do here. I am now knitting a handbag based on two patterns from the first The Knitter issue. I really don't know why I rarely ever stick to a particular pattern - I usually chose the best elements of several and combine them instead. :suspicious: For the bag I am using 100g of a lovely shiny fuchsia cotton yarn I bought ages ago and never had any use for. This is the perfect project for it and I hope I have enough yarn to finish.

Yeah, I've read about that. I know iKnit in London has blocking wires on sale online.

I wonder when I'll get to the point where I can modify or combine patterns. I'm in awe of people who can do that!

My daughter has started knitting. She is trying to knit a hat using 4 needles I believe and is looking around the Internet for advice and YouTube tutorials. Do you have any advice?

Though if she just started knitting, she needs to stick to a few scarves first before tackling in-the-round knitting. Also, she'd probably find it easier to knit a hat if she had circular needles for the larger parts.

I've just started my first in-the-round project which is a hat. It seems to be going well, though it's been a slow knit. *needs the finger tapping smiley*

Tosh, any news? I am too late with any possible response now. I would have said that starting off with knitting in the round and with 4 needles at that is fine. Sometimes the basics are boring and you lose interest, so why not begin with something more challenging?

The first project I finished in England is in fact quite British: a tea cosy. :LMAO: It actually works too.

Ooo, I forgot about this thread. :blackeye: I'll have to take some pictures. This weekend I bought a nice office chair with worn and dirty fabric for $10. Wohoo! :D And then yesterday I reupholstered it.

I have plans to go back and buy two more of the chairs if they're still there. :P

A tea cosy is an absolutely essential part of a British household.
I think my daughter is getting in to it. She's said that once the bug gets you, you need to cover everything in wool, sometimes with disturbing results. A website with both information and techniques but also with arty inspirations would be good. Her brother is going to pay for some circular needles for her birthday (today)

Please come to England and redecorate our place. Our flat is very bare adn unfortunately we aren't allowed to do anything to it. No painting, not even a nail in the wall. :( At least that is what mark tells me, but I want to see if it says so anywhere in the tenancy agreement or not. We could use a lick of paint, some furniture and paintings on the wall. I already found a shop with art supplies, but there is no use in painting something if I can't hang up the canvas in thee end.

Ravelry dot com is the best place I know. They have forums, many of which discuss techniques. There are different groups you can join depending on what you are interested in, and you can find all available patterns there and search for them with keywords. Also, you can list all your projects, your materials etc. It hhas some very good features, most of which I can't use right now since Mark's computer can't cope. :P

I hate that I can't paint my apartment. The walls are so...boring....and white. Bleh. :P And all apartments say no nails but everyone does it anyway. :blackeye: :P

I so want a pair of these. How do you think the knitter set about creating them?

It's probably going to be a bit before your daughter can knit those as they've got entrelac on them which is tricky.

As to how the knitter set out to make them...I think the more experienced knitter can have an idea of what they want to do and just go for it. Since you knit socks in the round, it's easy to see how the pattern is turning out. I'm sure some grid paper helps as well in regards to the lettering.

Later I'll have to post the other random things I bought at the store that was going out of business. I get excited by the simplest things, but really, they're so neat! :D Plus I picked up another chair for Holby and one for my sister. Somehow I got them for $5 each. Wohoo! :D

Thanks! I don't really like how the arm rests turned out, but oh well. And I couldn't quite figure out how to completely reattach the back piece, but I'll figure it out eventually. :P I'm going to make Holby help with reupholstering the one for him. And I might be nice and do the one for my sister. We'll see. :blackeye:
