In the vein of Garfield without Garfield, someone has attempted to "reinvent" the Family Circus (a cartoon that tries to be cute and funny, while being viewed as merely bland by most), by pairing random Family Circus drawings with random quotes from Nietzsche.

Examples:

After the old god...
Thoughts are the shadows...
The irrationality of a thing ...
In large states...

Are there other comics that could do with a makeover?

It'd be hard for any change not to make Family Circus better.

I loved family circus when I was a kid - I did always think it was more for kids than adults so never had any complaints about it.

So if you hit Refresh on one of the links Brian provided, it makes another random pairing for you. If you like the pairing, hit Permalink and get a permanent pairing like this one:

That guy sure had a lot of downer messages.
