They placed me at the University of Joensuu. My first choice was Helsinki, the capitol city, but Joensuu will do just fine. I suppose I'll get a good feel of the countryside.

Besides, I'll hopefully be traveling around a bit in Europe over Christmas break.

Excellent! I hope you have a ball travelling all over Europe! Is it just the one year, or do you have the opportunity to stay longer?

Thank ya, thank ya, gals!

Impy - Umm...no, I don't think I academically have the opportunity to stay longer than two semesters (fall and spring) b/c I'll be graduating after that spring semester. Although I could stay on for a possible Master's degree...or could stay just to stay....but we'll see. I really don't think I"ll want to be away from my family that long....they are a needy bunch. :P

Sharky - That all sounds awesome....but I'll have to pass on the vodka! ;) Do you speak Finnish??

I'm already nervous thinking about it!!!!!!!! :Q :Q :Q But that's a good thing. :)

Haha, no. Swedish, Danish and Norwegian are languages much like each other, Swedes and Danes and Norwegians can all understand one another. (Or, would, if Danes didn't speak with a potato stuck in their throats. :P ) Finnish, on the other hand, is a totally different language, belonging to a different language group. I wouldn't be able to understand a single word of it.

Luckily (for me if I ever went there? :P), Swedish is official language in Finland in addition to Finnish. ;)

Edit: I forgot to ask: what will you be studying?

Right...I've heard Finnish is not related to much....what IS it related to? :P That's great Swedish is spoken there commonly, and that you know English too! My perfect translator... and teacher? :P Nice to already know someone in the somewhat general area. ;) Yay for Tolkien!!!!

I'm studying forestry now and will be transferring forestry classes from Finland to complete my Univ of Tennessee forestry program. Finland is great for forestry....they've been practicing forestry over there just about as long as anywhere, I guess. (I know Germany's been doing it a long time.)

Forestry? Cool! I spent about half my childhood on a forestry museum. It's in Elverum, Norway - you should come to us instead! :D

Of course I'll be your very perfect translator and teacher. In the general area, definitely - just *checks map http://www.ki-capdist-div14.org/images/maps/Norden.jpg" target="_blank * 7 cm away. :thumbsup

Traveling to Norway sounds fun. What's the best way to get there?....by boat, then by train?

It all depends on how much $ I'll have at the time. I'm gonna be working this summer, but depending on which seasonal job I get, I may or may not make alot.

haha

If all of the music in Finland sounds like it does in that video, I'll have to rethink my going. :LMAO:

I'll have to throw some Hank Williams Jr. or Johnny Cash on'em! :P
