The other week we had some unusually gorgeous weather, so I took the five year old I work with to the playground. It had been cold and dreary for a long time, but finally some sunshine and warm temperatures. So, we get to the playground and I ask him what he wanted to play.
His response?
The Wii Fit!
My response?
But we're... outside.
Yes indeed, he wanted to pretend to play the wii fit.
Ok, I guess we can try that. I timed him while he ran laps around the playground. Naturally he waved at the pretend mii characters as he pretended to pass them. When he tired of that, he practiced "hitting a baseball," "twirling a hula hoop," and some other wii fit games.
So, while we were outside he pretended to play a game that pretends to be outside.
This is also a kid that watches approximately 30 minutes of television a day in the morning as he wakes up. I think he's seen a grand total of 5-6 movies, which isn't too bad, really. He's quite active and the wii is the only video game that he has ever played. They play the wii sports and the fit.
But still. This is all kinds of crazy to me.
