I'm going in for a follow-up interview tomorrow!

About a month ago, I got a letter from a vet clinic I had put my CV in to back in September saying they had an opening for a nursing assistant. Not what I'm wanting as it's going to be loads of cleaning, but it would get me back into the veterinary field and also give me a much better chance of landing a trainee nurse position as it seems most clinics promote internally.

So after a long wait, I finally had my interview this morning...and after a really, REALLY horrid day at work yesterday (the head manager is an absolute asshole...long story, but I was in tears of anger and frustration for about half of yesterday). My current job is a crap job that's making me absolutely miserable, so that makes me want this new job even more. I need my sanity back.

Anyway, I just got a call from them saying they were impressed and want me to come in and work with them for a few hours to see how I get on and if I like it. :D I wish I knew if they were doing this with anyone else. I hope I'm their first choice. Right now I'm only working 20-25 hours, it's a pain in the ass to get to work, the job makes me feel like crap, they're redoing my hours with no consideration as to how I feel about it and they won't let me have any weekends off. This new job is 40 hours, much easier to get to, in the field I want to be in and has a 1 out of three weekend rota! That would be so lovely.

So please, lots of good vibes as I very much need this job!

I'm a little late, so I'm not sure if you'll see this before the interview, but I'll be sending you whatever good vibes I have left at this point. :D

I hope you get it! It sounds much better suited for you.

Thanks everyone. :grouphug:

Basically today I went in and did the job I'm applying for. I assisted the in-patient nurse by restraining all the animals whilst she got their vital signs and drew blood. Then they had me clean a bit. That's pretty much what the job is going to entail: holding animals and cleaning which is exactly what I expected. It was really refreshing to be back in that environment though. I definitely know this is the right field for me to pursue a career in.

Anyway, it should have been obvious I knew proper restraining techniques and the questions I asked about the practice and their routine should also make it obvious I've been working in the field before.

I did my best. But now I have to wait. My guess is they're having some other people come in and do the same as I did. So who knows if those people have more experience, have qualifications (Brits are big on this it seems) or are more chatty and personable. I felt like I'd fit in fine but who knows. It's so difficult to guage interviews. Also life in the UK has been pretty crap for me lately, mostly caused by my hatred and loathing of my current job. It's made me so miserable and downtrodden that it's really difficult for me to not be pessimistic and think that I won't get this new job because of course I wouldn't be so lucky and I'll be stuck in a shit job. *sigh*

I want to be positive and hopeful but at the same time...if I get turned down...I'm probably going to have a bit of a meltdown.

Eru,

I really, really, really hope you get the job. I know how miserable a shitty job can make life. Fingers and toes crossed, good vibes flowing in.

I am thinking of you Eru. I know you are a bit pessimistic, but even if it doesn't turn out well, at least it means that people in your field in Britain are interested in you. If this Vetrinary centre was taking you seriously odds very high that other Veterinary places will too. (In Canada it's crap for many well trained professional immigrants to get a good job in Canada so I understand a bit of your frustration)

(sorry for my terribe typing skills) :blackeye:

OK say the worst and you don't get the job. Whether they contact you by phone or by letter, reply by saying you enjoyed the interview and seeing them and if another job came up with them you'd still be interested.
The thing is often employers appoint someone who for one reason or another doesn't last and then they can be caught without someone and don't want to go to the same trouble again. I'm sure they'll have you marked down as a possible even if you didn't get it.

But of course good luck all the same.

Ooo, so this is what Wilms had mentioned on skype the other day. Eru, I was cheerin' for you then and still am. :D Good luck!!!

I feel like the meltdown comment should be addressed but idk how :scared: so I'm just gonna say that you don't need to let thoughts like that in, and be proud of yourself. You know your qualifications. We know you're pretty fab, too. It'll work out from there.

Adding to what Tosh said: if they happen to hire someone else, ask them if they would be willing to recommend you based on your performance the day you worked for them. And if they agree, also ask if they know of any other vet offices that may need a nursing assistant.

On the other hand, hopefully you'll get hired so that this entire post can be dismissed as irrelevant. :D
