So Ed McMahon just passed away, and then I heard that Farrah Fawcett died as well. Now I'm hearing rumors that Michael Jackson is dead?

Crazy!

Is it true? How reliable is TMZ? AP is still reporting that he was taken to the hospital unresponsive.

It is shocking. He was only 50.

Lots of famous people going right now...it's a bit weird.

edit: I suppose you have a point about TMZ, Lali.

Honestly, I just didn't know if it's a reliable site or not. I'm not sure I've ever been there before. In any case, it looks like it's true. :(

Very.

They certainly cover stories like a tabloid might, but they always end up right.

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back; Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too - So I stayed in the darkness with you

It's official Jackson is dead....his career has been dead for a long time but he was such a monumental talent.

So uh, nearly EVERYONE is talking about MJ on Facebook right now. I scroll down through my friends' status, and 99% are talking about him. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but he's been quite the laughing stock for years, but now that he's dead everyone suddenly cares about him again? Hmmmm.

For me, I think it's just a sad ending to a sad life that started out with such promise and glory. His descent into weirdness, self-mutilation, and child molestation was just a travesty to watch. I mean, I felt sad for him and wanted him to find that inner peace he so obviously lacked.

idk what people are saying on facebook, but I think there's always been interest in him! Positive or not. I mean he was going to do 50 shows in London, I don't even want to think about the millions that would get him.

My own shock at his death comes from the fact that, well, dude's always been around. It's weird to lose a living legend. I knew he was sick, but it's hard to take some reports seriously. Patrick Swayze, anyone? The tabloids are almost counting down to when the poor guy finally gives in to his cancer. So yeah. Maybe Jackson's recent ailments have nothing to do with today's cardiac arrest, but it's still tough to wrap your head around. I actually happened to be listening to him a lot more this year for some reason. I love the Free Willy soundtrack, okay? But I also became a fan of 'Man In the Mirror', 'Human Nature', and even fake!MJ singing 'Happy Birthday, Lisa' in an episode of The Simpsons. If you're into music, you probably know lots of his songs, and if you're not living under a rock, you've probably heard something of his personal issues.

Besides, never a better time to finally blog about a guy than after he dies. :P

In my lifetime (born in 49) I have seen three major musical acts which eclipsed the normal boundaries of show business and became true cultural icons - Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Michael Jackson. I think of another musical act - Simon & Garfunkel and the song "Richard Cory" from their second album. Very sad life in so many ways.

Lalaith put it very well.

Don't forget David Carradine recently passed away also.

None of these people, except Ed, were all that old.

Sad indeed.

I agree with Lali's post about the sad ending to Michaels sad weird downward life.

My understanding was that that really was MJ, appearing under a fake name.

I hope eventually he is remembered more for his awesome talents and less for his sad, strange ending.

What the hell is going on? I'm hearing that Jeff Goldblum died too! :Q Is that a rumor? I'm suspicious.

David Carradine didn't just pass away..... autoerotic asphyxiation.

MJ is a surprise, Fawcett not at all, and not Ed McMahon.

I never knew that! It makes me feel better about his involvement, though. Like maybe he did have a sense of humor when he wasn't being eccentric 3000% of the time.

This isn't meant to offend anybody, I actually thought it was lovely (but then I'm a big Simpsons fan):
