Firefox is really starting to get on my nerves. I've never experienced issues with it before until this install on this new computer.

The problem I'm having with it is images loading on some pages. Sometimes they take a bit of time or sometimes a long time. Sometimes a page won't even load altogether. Yet if I open the same page in IE, there's no problem whatsoever.

The worst offending websites (or the few that consistently give me problems) are Threadless.com (even the images in the emails I get from Threadless take ages to load) and photobucket. Today I couldn't get a link to the Telegraph (newspaper) to open. Even all the images (smileys and icons) at The Outer Banks take time to load.

When I mentioned having issues at TOB, Jude had me check the amount of memory allowed to cache images (50MB) and he said that should be enough. So that's not the problem.

The only thing I've tweaked with Firefox is a speed tip I found at a computer help forum I've used before:

http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/sho ... hp?t=67576

Anyway, this is getting old and really frustrating. I'd ask at Mozilla's forums but I saw someone ask pretty much the same question and get no response. Anyone here have any suggestions?

How long was the question up with no responses?

I don't really know if the speed thing worked. I'd be much more inclined to say no.

It had been a couple of weeks the question had gone unanswered.

Do most questions in that forum get answered? If so, I would be inclined to start a new thread re-asking the question in your own words.

Okay, with more searching I read about issues with Spybot search and destroy and how the immunizing it does for FF causes things to load slowly, so I discontinued that. I also read someone say not to use any of the speed tricks as they're for older versions (plus suggesting a specific value for one of the settings in about:config). So I think I've pretty much undone what I did and TOB loaded up all images in a few seconds along with photobucket and Threadless. We'll see if this lasts. Also, no idea which fix helped.

Oh, Eru, I wonder if that's what's going on on my computer. It has been giving me fits lately! I'll have to try it.

Lali: do you mean you also use the same spyware program or have tried tweaking Firefox?

.
.

Hey Jude! I finally figured out why the spell checker wasn't working even though it was turned on. Upon some searching I found this:
Quote:
If you’ve recently installed a new version of Firefox (a fresh install – not an update), then you might find that the “check spelling as I type” feature no longer works. This is because some of the newer releases of Firefox don’t come with a dictionary.
http://www.thewebsiteprofessionals.com/ ... check.html

I was able to download a dictionary and now it's working fine. Though I was conflicted about which dictionary to download: US English or British English. :P

I love the first comment in that link:

The firefox dictionary plugin really does come in handy, but if your solely reallying on it, time to go back to school
So deliciously ironic :LMAO:

:LMAO: That is a good one.

Eru, I have Spybot on my desktop, and I've had problems with Firefox on it. I will try disabling Spybot and see if that helps.

I don't think you need to disable spybot entirely but just uncheck firefox in the immunize section.

edit: though saying that, when I just clicked on immunize, it still immunized Firefox as it reverted back to its normal settings. Firefox is still fine. It looks like my problem was that speed fix I tried. It obviously only works for older versions.
