I posted this on facebook as well.

The new trailer for the Cameron film avatar has a scene with these floating island mountain things that I could swear were originally drawn by an artist on deviant art whose last name, I believe, starts with a V. The images in the trailer are almost exact in style.

It's one of those things that's bugging the hell out of me - artists name on the tip of my tongue, and I can see his artwork clearly in my mind, but I've already done a search through over a thousand pics with the words "floating mountain" and can't find it.

The artist also did a series of pics of a dark haired, dark skinned beautiful woman in white, one standing on a mountain, one reading and one sleeping....

Anyone who used to post with or read the stuff from the RWSG on TORC (and a little bit here) would probably remember me contemplating using his pictures for one of my characters in the RP, but I can't seem to find a link in the thread.

Can anyone help?

Floating mountains are a common fantasy theme, so there are probably many artists with a similar idea. Have you tried looking at the websites of the people listed as "Art Direction" in IMDB for this movie?

By the way, just for the record, the Laureanna in Deviant Art is not me. She stole our name, Precious, yes she did!

Well, I first saw these pics between 7-9 years ago, so the person who did them had to be a member for at least that long. I also remember reading that he had been hired to do some art for a movie, though obviously not this one from Steve's research. He's done a few book covers as well, but dammit, not of any of the books I own. At this point it just bothering me because it's bothering me, but I can't find a way to search deviant art alphabetically. There can't be that many males on there whose last name starts with V for goodness sake, but I can't find a way to search by artist.

I remember now I never went to deviant art that often because it was very slow and not easy to use. Would've thought they'd have changed that in the years it's been since I used them.

If only my old computer hadn't broken beyond repair, or that yahoo had sent my pics to photobucket like they said they would. I had pictures saved by this artist in both places. Never thought I would forget his name either :(

Surely you could get some screenshots of the trailer so people can see what images you're talking about? That might increase your likelihood of someone recognising it.

That does seem familiar, but I couldn't help you with an artist name.

Though I'm thinking floating hills/mountains could be a common theme in surrealism art?
