Sorry.
I will say that our autumn came in like a lion this year! It was quite warm, even hot, up until the past week or so. Then BAM! It's cold, upper 50s. Fall is definitely here; I'm just hoping that we get a few more warm days before the snow flies.
The leaves are starting to change color. That fall smell is in the air. The fields are full of goldenrod and purple asters; the soybeans are rusty brown. And the sky is that amazing blue, deep and vibrant.
You know what I miss? I miss the smell of burning leaves. I can remember spending hours helping my dad rake the leaves from our large yard full of trees. Blisters on my hands, nose red from the cold, we'd finally work the leaves to the road. We lived in a little neighborhood, tucked away off a small road. Our road was just gravel and very little traffic traveled it. So we'd burn the huge piles of leaves all afternoon long.
I know it's bad for the environment and dangerous and all of that, but there's nothing like the smell of leaves burning on a crisp fall day.
