A hint? Hmm...the translation site is down at the moment...

Okay, the clue is "a fair trade"

I think I know. Is it:

"No Niggard are you to give thus to Gondor the fairest thing in thy realm" (Paraphrased from memory)

Okay, I'll jump-start this baby again:

The funny thing is, the original quote has nothing to do with weight loss, but the word "fat" is used as a pejorative.

As in "stupid, fat hobbitses"? or was the reference to Butterbur?

Neither (and wasn't the "stupid fat hobbitses" a movie quote?)

It's probably from The Hobbit, but I can't think of the exact line.

Probably about Smaug not raiding Lake-town - or maybe NOT being too fat and lazy to hunt ponies - and I'm going to look it up.

*reads several chapters* Can't find it there - maybe the Unexpected Party...

Bother and confusticate it! I can't find it anywhere! ... Unless it's from "Flies and Spiders": "Here am I, naughty little fly; you are fat and lazy. You cannot trap me, though you try, in your cobwebs crazy." If it's not that, I give up.

Your last guess is correct:

"Here am I, naughty little fly; you are fat and lazy."

It sure switched the subjects around, then! *fetches large stack of books, which actually were put away yesterday*

And I tried another sentence just for the fun of it:
Quote:
It's my birthday I make it, I think there.

Yes. Once I started with the thing, I couldn't stop! :) Either or both answers will be fine. (I think they're fairly easy.)

Well, I thought the second one might be "It's my birthday, my love, and I wants it.", but I ran it through the translator and got "It is my birthday I want to believe it, I love it". So that's not it.

Still pretty funny, though :D
