I had not seen the second one :)

I understand why you kept them.....

Before the music ends
and the feet stand still at last
before the silence echoes
and the hands cease to clap
before the curtain falls
and the dust settles in
before the night falls
and the rain hits the window
before the end

Once, once only, once at least
Once like once upon time
Let me love you.

Untitled - By Rebekah

Then, most midnight in my blood
you rose like salmon
      gliding through a pool
powerfully flicking the reedy banks

with shoals of breaking light
  warily
 heavily haunting, seeking as mercury
  my blood dissolved that still
 retained
    unchanged it's weight of you
           it's quickening kind

and then it was that love
was as simple as the grain
   our bodies pressed
       while above our heads
       endlessly
             the trailing clouds sang glorious

Life’s Masquerade

We wear our masks,
With the hideous grin,
A façade of normality,
Hiding truth within.

Bright and colorful,
Full of deception,
And ideal front,
But a flawed perfection.

Bound by society,
Personalities fade,
Wearing a mask to please others,
In Life’s Masquerade.

Fallen Angel

From the heavens she slowly descends,
From downcast eyes fall glistening tears,
Like drops of crystal, diamonds clear,
Dark hair cascading over ebony wings,
Radiating a tainted ethereal light,
Turned away by the gods,
Forsaken by that which she believed in,
A pursuer of heaven's lie.

I think I'll do a picture of some sort to go with this one too...

The creamy stone awash with suns rays
Is coarse and grainy to the touch.
The pale flowers in the grass
Lie crushed in careless footprints.
The birdsong that we bathed in
Has fallen loudly silent.
The group of carefree students
Have met and parted for the last time.

Strange, I couldn't hear the singing till it stopped.

All my swords are made of wood.
All my dreams drifting dust.

My vain cry "If only I could..."
Has all my love been only lust?

I longed to be the first of your heroes.
To hold back all your pain and woes.

Is the problem me?
Everyone expects me to be perfect.

But disappointing is all I can be.
Like a toy soldier broken and cracked.

What have I done?
Who an I to hold your hand?

Your glances I refuse to shun.
But your love is not mine to demand.

So I 'll take the treasure of your words and seal them away.
You showed me that I could be loved.

For you my Passion I will slay.
And pretend my heart was never yours

Thanks, Pips. :D :)

Hmmm...yours has inspired me to post another one of mine...

Paris

The city lights glimmering far below,
The noisy din of people and cars,
The sweet smell of flowers blooming in spring,
The remaining chill of winter winds.
I look down upon the city below,
Feeling as if in a dream,
The last evening I’d spend in the city of lights,
The last evening I’d spend in fair Paris.

Uninspired and distantly removed from life.
I seem to drift through the world.
No purpose, no joy, no emotions.
Just a memory of a ghost of what I once was,
and a shimmer of what I may be again.

I cannot seem to be motivated.
I cannot seem to be interested.
My life on hold, like a movie paused.
While fate is gone for more important people
Dropped into a big gaping hole,
where once I had a purpose.

Now there's nothing left.

I lay my lover down to die
Where the sea meets with the land
I lay my lover down to die
My own end soon at hand
For life without her presence
Is too cruel a life for me
My tasks I must all finish soon
Then follow cross the sea
I lay my lover down to die
And leave with her a prayer
That I be blessed to join her
With Eternity to share.

Well, if Hue has the guts to post that....

Written last January, on a night when I couldn't sleep. I did indeed finish the last lines as the sun was starting to come up.

Grief strangles me,
With tentacles grey,
Squeezes the heart
So painfully

Make it STOP!
I howl and cry,
I cannot bear,
I beg to die!

Block the sun
From the sky,
All joy is gone
Just let me die!

Take me home,
To dwell with thee,
With the One
I so long to see!

My eyes are red,
It's hard to see,
Faint the light
That comes to me...

Yet, slowly dawn
Creeps through the glass,
Another day
Has come at last...

I beg you, God,
To help me see,
The joy, the light
That waits for me.

Not just in Heaven
But here, on Earth
Sow seeds of hope,
To bring new birth.

My heart lies barren,
Sick and sore,
Help it heal,
To beat once more!

Another scream of pain, this one from March, as I was packing for my move to Aurora. It just boggles my mind to see how many dear friends I've lost in the last few years, and there's even a few I didn't mention in this poem. (My cousin Katie also lost her brother and her father within a year of each other.)

Thank God, things are looking brighter now! I still have my bad moments, but not as black as these.

My husband was an avid photographer. As I sort things for moving, nearly every box seems to contain old photos….and all too many of the people in these photos are now dead…..

DEATH

Death surrounds me on every side,
Everywhere, faces, of those who've died,
Warm smiles, forever frozen in time,
Oh, to touch them again, t'would be sublime!

There's my good friend Ev, companion gay,
Who stood with me on my wedding day,
She fought grave illness with a smile brave,
Alas, eight years now, she's in the grave.

Freda, a nurse, so kind and caring,
Always with others, God's love sharing,
Struck down by a car that was passing by.
I never had time to say goodbye.

There's my father dear, spade in hand,
How he loved to work the land,
Nearly ninety when he passed this May,
Yet I miss his smile every single day.

There's cousin Katie, with her great big grin,
Her mom's kind eyes, and her dad's firm chin,
We grew up together, had lots of fun,
Cancer claimed her far too young.

Just when I thought I could bear no more,
Of this grief that makes my heart so sore,
The face of the one most dear to me,
Comes into view for me to see.

Scalding tears then cloud my sight,
And day becomes as blackest night,
Though I'm alone here in my room,
Dear faces haunt me in the gloom.

All alone as the ghost press in,
My heart is hollow, dead within
I cannot feel love, nor can they,
Naught but sadness day by day.

Dreary the hour, dreary is life,
Sharp stabs the pain, like a knife,
All joy is fled, to ashes gone,
I wonder why I linger on….

My mother passed away in March, on Easter Monday. This meant that my parent's home of 42 years, the home my brother and I grew up in had to be sold. As I stood in the now almost empty basement, the muse kicked in, and gave me this, which I left behind on the chalkboard* for the new owners:

God bless this house, and all within,
Here were gathered friends and kin,
These walls have seen both joy and tears,
And all our history, for 42 years.
Let this be said, as the sun goes down,
Within these walls did love abound!

*(My parents were both teachers...of COURSE we had our very own chalkboard...real slate, too!)

Thanks, Hue! :grouphug: back at'cha.

I usually don't share this type of poem with anyone but my closest friends. Guess you guys qualify... :)

I wouldn't have done it if Che hadn't bared his soul first, though...

In the dark of night
The chill comes
It wraps around the heart
In the dark of night
The chill comes
That's when the terrors start
In the dark of night
The chill comes
And soon it will not leave
In the dark of night
The chill comes
And brings the soul to grieve

The Western Sea is calling
I cannot hear its voice
My love harkens to answer
She has no other choice
Her step I cannot alter
Her path I cannot sway
No way for me to follow
Alone here I must stay
And how shall the light find me
When I'm left in the dark
How can I soldier onward
With only half my heart
But fortune has no pity
It's blessings you can't trust
Its humor the height of cruelty
For soldier on I must
The Western Sea is calling
I cannot hear its voice
My life rises to answer
She has no other choice

I've kept myself from posting here for a long time but thought i could share my share of poems.

Here's one that basically sets the tone for all my poems. They're dark and sorrowful even when I am not. This one was inspired by a painting: Calamity of Touch

"Shades of Grey"

Night is falling
Dark shades of grey await me
In a place where I can’t see
The bathing of silver lights

The pile of memories drift away
The shadow of you next to me is fading
No tears can make the past stay
And outside the silver rays of light are bathing
Forever lost in shades of grey

No more will I recoil at the touch of cold stone
It’s a feeling I’ve grown to love
Just a matter of adjusting the courage
That runs through my acheing bones
A blanket of pouring rain is enough
To keep me alive they say
Safe here raptured in shades of grey

In the garden where we used to walk
All the trees are dying
The grass has turned to ashes
And the honest flowers are sinistery lying
The rose of my innocence is broken
And lies wheeping on the road to sin
In the reflection of silver lights bathing

Morning is dawning
On the shades of grey
And still I cannot see
The bathing of silver lights
Where they used to be

Homeless

I have lost my home,
My parents dead and gone,
My husband gone to join them,
So here I sit alone,

Home is where the heart is,
This I've often heard
My heart lies dead and bleeding,
These words sound quite absurd.

The house we onced called 'home'
Changed hands today, you see
New people dwell there now,
Strangers to you and me.

Please forgive me if I mourn,
I held it very dear,
T'was filled with joy and warmth and love,
With caring and with cheer.

Where is that joy that I once knew?
I do not find it here,
As I sit alone with furry friends,
My house seems dark and drear.

I miss these things so sorely now,
My heart throbs with the pain,
I would fill my house with love and song,
And have them back again.

O, help me fight the black of night,
As I sit fearful and alone,
Help me reach out to new friends,
And make THIS house a home!

When I lay me down to sleep
My broken heart can only weep
I cannot die before I wake
For there is much to undertake
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
And bless me with some peacefull sleep

Darkness walks a quiet step and moves a creeping pace as it marks the way to dawn.

Thoughts mix with mysteries and offer lifetimes lived in moments that slumber in the mind untill called forth by the heart.

Echos of memory haunt and taunt and tempt to madness in the night

The dawn is far away and slow to harken hence

But I must wait it out.
