Wither shall you wander
Now that your king is gone?
Now all the ships have sought the West
That should have been your home?

To what will your heart hearken
Now that his voice is still
Now all your kin have left you
In accordance with your will

Where will your soul find comfort
Now that your lover sleeps
Now all the halls and golden wood
Are fading as you weep

Arwen Undomiel
Her people’s EvenStar
With beauty like Tinuviel
Not even time cold mar
Your people sailed without you
To reach the Western shore
For sake of Love
You chose to stay
And see them never more

So wither shall you wander
Now that the king’s called home
And how to face the lonely years
In Middle Earth
Alone

The Release

To-day within a grog-shop near
I saw a newly captured linnet,
Who beat against his cage in fear,
And fell exhausted every minute;
And when I asked the fellow there
If he to sell the bird were willing,
He told me with a careless air
That I could have it for a shilling.

And so I bought it, cage and all
(Although I went without my dinner),
And where some trees were fairly tall
And houses shrank and smoke was thinner,
The tiny door I open threw,
As down upon the grass I sank me:
Poor little chap! How quick he flew . . .
He didn't even wait to thank me.

Life's like a cage; we beat the bars,
We bruise our breasts, we struggle vainly;
Up to the glory of the stars
We strain with flutterings ungainly.
And then -- God opens wide the door;
Our wondrous wings are arched for flying;
We poise, we part, we sing, we soar . . .
Light, freedom, love. . . . Fools call it -- Dying.

When my mom lost her eyesight to the point where she could no longer read, my father would read to her. When he went into the nursing home, he would still sometimes read aloud to whomever had the time to listen. On this particular day, it was me....I still cherish this memory as a precious moment!

My Father Read to Me Today

My father read to me today,
Voice slow and sure
Unmarred by the confusion
That has clouded his mind of late

Strong hands steady on the page
Their palsied trembling stilled
Big farmer’s hands,
Once as sure on the horse’s reins
As wielding blackboard chalk
For classroom sums.

His grey head bowed,
Mild brown eyes vague and lost,
Yet, for awhile, I let the years fall away,
And listened, rapt as a child

Remembering

People come and people go,
Like shadows on a sunny day,
Leaving marks on people’s hearts,
For us to hold on to and remember.
We push our lives on so quickly,
Living a lifetime in a moment,
Becoming wrapped up in our own problems,
Hardly ever glancing back,
To think of those who passed on before,
Until at last something happens,
A loved one or friend is taken away,
To make us stop and think.
People come and go so swiftly,
Disappearing on the horizons of time,
Many are forgotten entirely,
And some live on in memories.
Live your life to its fullest,
Never taking a single day for granted,
For one’s life is a very fragile thing,
And can end within a single moment.
Forgive and forget, live, love, and remember.

Waiting for Eternity

Upon the shore she stood at night,
As the moon rose o’er the darkened sea,
With lantern clasped tightly in her hands,
Fearing what had befallen thee.

No whisper of comfort carried in the salty air,
No message written in the stars above,
Nothing to stop the silver streams of tears,
Shed bitterly and yet mourning lost love.

She cursed the starlit waters,
And from her mouth uttered a great cry,
Towards the heavens far overhead,
How cruel of it to take you away and not to let her die.

Alone upon the shore she stood at night,
Dreaming of how it was meant to be,
Alone upon the shore she stood,
Waiting to be reunited with thee…

Waiting for eternity.

Whispers in the Silence

In the silence you hear them,
the voices long past,
throwing words of caution into the wind,
reminiscing of days now gone,
of ancient times not known to us,
of battles fought and celebrations gay,
of betrayals and old loves,
of endless nights and endless days.
By few are they noticed,
and few are there that care,
that take heed to their warnings,
or the knowledge they have to share.
Empires rose and they fell,
like the movement of the tides,
their people passing on,
as sand in the hourglass of time.
Take a moment and listen,
to those that have lived,
for much wisdom can be found,
in the whispers in the silence.

me with the joy of elevated thoughts; a sense sublime of
something far more deeply interfused, whose dwelling is the
light of setting suns, and the round ocean and the living air,
and the blue sky, and in the mind of man; a motion and a
spirit, that impels." -Wordsworth

My lips still tremble from your sweet touch
And when I smile
Your skin touches me.
And I love you
In the laughter, barely risen by your hands
On the rainy afternoon
As you lay by my side
And my smile is a kiss
The world is perfect.

Worth The Wait

When I think of you my lover
As it happens, all the time
I can only hope that soon
Again you will be all mine...

I get so anxious
my heart a twitter pated
because to be with you
means more than I have stated..

Your kiss on my lips
Your touch on my skin
Your body close to mine
A memory that does not end...

I can recall your mouth
I can see your hand
Sliding up my legs
It was more than I could stand..

And when you are beside me
My breath gets taken away
The unique way you love on me
touches me more than I can say...

I don't want to steal your life
I know that it is your own
But I feel so ever grateful
I don't travel this path alone....

While I know it is worth the wait
The hours to you seem so very long
Take these treasured word with you
You have my love within this song....

A song for the Never Winter Nights role play, Fionavar the Bard sings a litany for the dead...

Life is a precious gift
Given to us by the maker
And as she so bestows
She can be the only taker...

Never do harm to another
Seek only for the maiming
The dead can not retaliate
Nor the soul be reclaiming..

Walk through this life
With your hands open wide
No reason to have any fear
No reason to have to hide...

When death must come
As we know it surely will
Keep courage within your heart
Anger and revenge be still..

To each individual is the task
Of living with their deeds
Rest well in the knowledge
That you have planted only seeds...

And when you return at last
The Maker will offer a new start
To those who heeded the warning
And retain a clean and open heart...

Capture thoughts and make them obey—
So it says, but easier said than done.
They flit past and escape, slipping through my fingers.
Encircling mind and heart, grey tendrils grasping tightly,
Weaving their way into the warp and woof of my soul.
They grow and gain strength,
A wicked pleasure, a secret delight,
That hidden smile, the flicker in my eye.
Grab my sword and stalk them,
Much strength is required—to kill myself.
But, even if banished, they lurk within,
Waiting just below the surface,
Grendel’s mother deep within my soul.

A rather recent poem I wrote, I think it's also on my deviant art account:

When All is Said and Done by:Elfin_Jedi
I hope you never look back
on your life in content
and be able to say
that your life was 'pleasent'.

I hope that you don't win
every race that you run,
and at least once in your life,
you're hurt by someone.

I hope you get rejected
just once so you can see
what a lifetime of rejection is like.
That's how it used to be for me.

I hope that you are humbled,
and your pride is torn and bruised;
so you'll learn to be strong
and not let yourself get used.

I hope that you have to work
and earn what you receive,
and that when you make a promise
it's one that you can keep.

I hope that you will marry,
and though I know you'll fight,
I hope you never divorce,
'cause you know full well that isn't right.

I hope that you have children,
and they overrun your house;
just don't forget that they are blessings
meant for you and your spouse.

I hope that you have friends
some older and some new,
and I hope you don't forget to call:
I still want to hear from you.

I hope that you find someone
who puts a smile on your face,
'cause it seemed no matter how hard I tried
I couldn't fill the space.

I hope you listened to your mom
and that you honored you dad.
I hope you're a shoulder to cry on,
when a stranger's feeling sad.

I hope you go to Heaven
and sin you've overcome.
I hope you know I loved you,
when all is said and done.
