Alas, Maiden, I think that the one person who could answer that question is no longer with us. Or at least if someone here has an answer, it is not I.

Ah, okay. Thanks. :) You all know so much more than I, so I thought I'd ask.

Maiden, don't sell yourself short. You ask good questions. That is the most important first step towards knowledge. :)

Thanks Mossy for asking those questions, that is what I was thinking too. If Melkor/Morgoth could deny someone free will, that is some serious power. Frell, I 'll be thinking of your question for a long time now. Thanks though I now understand that Turin and Nienor's free will was denied, I did not understand that part before. Sheesh talk about totally screwed. So if they did have free will I am guessing things would have been different. I think I understand.

Thanks, Voronwe. :) Nice to know that I'm at least on the right road. . .

Wilma, that's going to be bothering me, too. I definitely think I understand the whole story better now, as well.

Perhaps it is like the Book of Job...where God lets Satan have his physical way with Job, up to and including killing off all his children. It's one of those books that is infinitely more satisfying when you don't try to read it literally...
