Sometimes a carefully crafted poem can be a kind of meditation. Hue and the people of the Bards Guild on TORC challenged me to write poetry, though it is something I would never have thought of doing before. Since joining, I've found myself in lonely moments, on the train, or in my bed, crafting poems that get right to the heart of the matter that troubles me. Is there interest in starting up a song/poetry/storytelling group here? Formally or informally? There is no substitute for Hue, but perhaps we can do something in his fond memory. Please let me know if you are interested in starting something, and feel free to add poetry of your own to this thread.

Sea Longing

The tide draws in around my feet, compelling me to go.
Mew gulls call beyond my sight, beyond the reach of mortal flight.
The mists close in to dim the light, compelling me to go.

There is no ship can bear me hence, to land of blessed exile.
No wings can take me from this soil, this clasping life of endless toil.
No strength can shirk this mortal coil, to land of blessed exile.

Resolute, I turn to go; I leave the sea behind.
I choose to live this mortal life, I plunge into its endless strife.
As leader, daughter, mom, and wife, I leave the sea behind.

Crossing Paths

I walk alone with steady pace
On paths both new and old
Across the realm of thoughts and dreams
A seeker of answers untold.

I search for truth and answers
In the twisted labyrinth of life
Doubting some and embracing others
Looking for that which seems to be right.

Oft’ it happens that our paths may cross
Or perhaps lead in opposite ways
And over time we join with others
But then turn again another day.

Until our paths may cross once more
Perhaps with many more turns before then
I bid you until that time ahead
Merry meet and merry part and merry meet again.

Haven't dropped by the Bard's Guild in ages...

But sure, I'd join up with something like this. Perhaps it should go in 'There and Back again', though? There are a few poetry threads already, but we could establish a group of sorts.

:)

Not sure where to put this thread - I wanted a Middle Earth or at least Tolkienesque flavor to the poetry. Yours certainly qualifies. Let's see what happens.

I don't have anything to contribute at the moment, but I'd like to make an announcement if I may. The Bard's Guild on TORC is now holding a festival in honor of Master Erinhue. The theme is Love/Encouragement and Elengil volunteered to collect the resulting poems into a book and forward them to Hue.

If there are any Bards around who would like to contribute, you can either post in the Festival thread or forward your poem to Elengil (or I can do it if you prefer) to be included in the collection.

How is Erinhue doing?

I've been praying for his wife, and for him and his family. :(

The last update I saw was in the Talk sticky on April 22
An update from the man himself, folks

First of all, Cyn is now entering her second round of Chemo and though she is weak and sick, her tumors are shrinking. She had pain in her shoulder (they thought something might have been pressing on a nerve) and it's gone now, probably another lesion going down. She's also managed to put on three pounds.

The cards and letters mean a LOT to their family. Danimal likes to say "We got TORCH mail!!" whenever they get one, and Hue fills Cyn in on who we all are.

The power of positive thinking and prayer are at work and though the sitaution is very serious, the whole family is aware of how loved they are because of your gracious cards, gifts, letters or called.

Thank you to everybody who has sent them out so far and remember, if you wish to do so, please contact Ddraigwen@TolkienOnline.com as she's kindly taken the project over from me.

Thanks for the heads up. I've posted the poem above, plus another, in the festival thread. Am busy poking my muse for more.

I last exchanged emails with Che a few weeks ago. Sorry I don't have any good news to add. He did say how much he appreciates postcards. I just emailed him to ask if he is comfortable sharing his physical address with members of Board77 who ask me for his address via email. He may remember us as a board full of renegades , but I think not. Meanwhile, you can get contact info thru TORC. He and Cyn also greatly appreciate prayers.

I just got word back from him - yes, he and his family are still cheered by our postcards. PM me and I'll give you his address.

Tough I never really considered myself a bard (for the life of my I just can't rhyme) I always held Hue in high regard, especially his human-ness. Thanks Laureanna for the updates and for the reminder. It's been a while since I've sent him an email but will do so now. :)

WHOA!!! Just noticed this at the bottom of the main page: Newest registered user: ERINHUE!!!

I'm astonished, because I never saw any discussion about an invite being issued...did I miss it somewhere? :scratch

Wecolme, anyhow, and we'll certainly understand if you don't find the time to post or visit very often! :cheers

EDIT: see post below. :(

But is he in, or did he just register? People can register, but they won't be activated and able to see the boards until an admin does so.

Okay, he registered of his own accord, but of course, his permissions cannot be activated until we either open the board, or do an invite thread for him. And, of course, invites are closed right now... :(

The admins have posted about this in the Forum Management forum. He's been sent a very polite e-mail to explain why we can't let him in just yet.

Needless to say, everyone feels really bad about having to do this! :bawl:

This was moved from HoF, but I thought would fit better here than in Literary Rambles.
