Silwen, I get that. I may not agree, but I understand. ;) I just bought a copy-- I'll have to read it again more critically. I am glad that you liked the last lines. It has to be my favourite ending to a book ever. It's just fabulous.

You may (or may not) be interested to know that Maguire just published a sequel. I haven't read it yet, so I couldn't say if any of the problems of loose ends and unresolved themes are solved, but it would appear that he agrees with you that Wicked isn't complete.

Oh, now for something good about Wicked: I named my gerbils Fiyero and Liir after the characters. :D
Excellent choice of names. :D

Yes, I have heard about the sequel. I am not going to buy it (yet); I'd rather borrow it, but seeing that even part ne hasn't been published here, I doubt we'll get the second one. I heard from fans of Wicked that Son of a Witch isn't nearly as good, though. I think thats Maguire writing a sequel has more to do with the musical's popularity than unresolved endings in the first book. If I understood correctly, there is going to be at least one other book, but I am not sure.

No need to agree with me. :) As long as you know what I'm talking about, I'm happy.

When I told my grandma the names of my gerbils she said, "What? Lear? Like King Lear?" And I said no. :blackeye: Guess I'll have to correct that.

I have actually been to a book store and intentionally walked by Son of a Witch :( I have too many books to finish right now. If only I could stay of the boards and YIM long enough to read :D

Am wearing my shirt that says "Wicked" today for Halloween!!!

I did, too, at first. I still wouldn't have it had I not gone to the signing . . .

I am going to butcher the title of the book but Barnes and Noble has the Grimmerie and it's loaded with Wickedy goodness.

I thought of you when I saw it Mossy :D

Thanks, TM! So nice to be thought of. :)

The Grimmerie (also butchering it :P ) looks like a really neat book! I have one of the photos from it as my AIM icon, I think.

As far as I know, it's essentially about the making of the musical. There's a whole section by Stephen Schwartz about how he wrote the songs, what the inspirations for them were. There are character bios, profiles for each actor/actress who has had a lead on Broadway, and they talk about the process of bringing it to stage.

Edit: The Grimmerie on Amazon.

(Turns out you spelled it right, TM! :D )

I saw Wicked again this weekend and again Mossy I thought of you . It was brilliant and I can't wait to see it again. I thought about the differences about the book and play and of course heard Alatar express his prefrence for the play over the book.

It's hard not to carry a piece of this board around with me in my pocket since there are so much diversity. I'm glad there are others who share my love for not only books but theater. :)

Jude don't you have tix to see Wicked?

I'm jealous! (But touched that you thought of me! )

I'd love to see it again. They're getting a new Elphaba in NYC, Edin Espinosa. Perhaps I can use that as an exuse. ;)

I have been listening to the Wicked soundtrack since seeing it again this weekend formulating a nice post for this thread, so when I have time to devote a nice lengthy time where I can focus and post (hopefully this weekend) I'll dicuss my most recent viewing of Wicked vs my previous viewing and my thoughts on the book again.

BUT evertime I listen to the soundtrack and think of the play I almost burst, for lack of a better word. I'm almost overwhelmed, does that make sense? I have so much love for this musical and everything that goes along with it. I really wish they would come out with it on DVD like they did with Joseph. I keep wanting to watch the play (Wicked) over and over again, but I'm gonna spend my entire savings to keep seeing it because I love the rush and emotion it makes me feel.

I love it  I love it  I love it  I love it

I'll certainly be seeing it, but not again! So far I have only illegal bootlegs to judge from. I have the soundtrack of course, but I've never seen the show live.

There's a lot of great things about Ireland, but access to musicals isn't one of them :)

Alatar, that's so exciting! :D I'm really glad for you. And what is this bootleg of which you speak? From where do you get it?

TM, I look forward to your post and like your new avatar. (That dress!

It makes SO much sense. Defying Gravity made me cry both times I saw it on stage, because it so completely overwhelmed me, and sometimes it does on the OCR, too. Wicked may not be the best or the most enduring show, but it's so much a part of me. My roommate calls me Elphie. It's the soundtrack to my life, and I'm sure I'll exhaust much of my savings on seeing it (not to mention all of the other shows of which there are far too many!). (I'm sure I've said all this before, but I'm saying it again. :P )

edit: I'm watching the Broadway's Best at the Boston Pops, and they just had Kristin Chenoweth on singing Candide. And OMG (fangirl moment) she was hilarious. She's brilliant and I love her.
