His Dark Materials group read - Chapter 1 startig 16/17 July (one chapter every two weeks approximately)

Participants: more always welcome :)

Pipps
: back around 27th July
Mossy: off ex 16July for one month
Athrabeth
Fras: on holiday till approx 24 July
PrincessOfIthilien
Nin – on holiday 2nd half July
Lhaewin
TheMary
Berhael
Alandriel

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, it's not like I'm the one who first suggested this (I think it was Dindraug). I also know right now is not the greatest time for starting but I would soooooooooo like to see this one in the pipe-line, espeically in regard for what's coming up soon ;)
Philip Pullman - HIS DARK MATERIALS, a group read.
That's why I'm seriously but tentatively starting this - to see how much support this will get. I'd like to take it VERY slow, no more than a chapter every 2 weeks or so to give those on summer holidays a break, yet also something to keep coming back to.
What do you think?
[edit because I'm hare-brained :roll:]
I'm always good for a re-reading, but I'd be pleased if people went a bit faster than that- I'll forget what's happening, and the chapters aren't particularly long or complicated. Minor gripes aside, sign me up! :D
I love HDM. :D
However, I'm awful at keeping up with these things. Not that I won't try. :)
I'd love to hear what others have to say about HDM, (and put in my two cents as well). I actually just re-read the books while I was on holiday this January, so many details are still fresh in my mind.......well, at least as fresh as they can be inside this overcrowded and disorganized storehouse of grey matter :help: .
Great idea! :)
Sorry for having this neglected for so long.... :oops:
Thanks for the Enthusiasm! :D
However, Pipps, I don't think we can do this fast - or let's rephrase it *cough* - I can't do this fast, especially NOT during the summer months.
I know Dindraug and Nin were also quite keen on the idea some time ago and so I'll shoot off a couple of PMs. Would be nice to get this going in a couple of weeks.
(I think a chapter every two weeks would take something like three and a half years...)
But okay! I'm still up for it! ;):D
I never said we might not pick up the pace after the summer a wee bit ;)
It's good to have the reminder :D Thanks Pipps!
I'll be gone for the next month, but I promise I'll try and get into it once I'm back!
I'm really awful at these group reads. Maybe having it be a book I love so much will make it easier. :)
:D Excellent! Lots of new people - and I see you've made it over here too Princess! :D
How about we start this with Chapter one next week? This week is just total chaos for me. Read up on Chapter one by the 16/17 July and then just go ahead and post your thoughts about it for the week running and see how we're doing and when we're ready to move onto the next chapter. I'd like to keep everything in this one thread here and label the Chapter discussion posts with a large header if that's ok with you for easy overview.
Summer holidays for me start on the 21st July and that means I'm even more of a full time Mom then I am now till well into the first week of September. So my pace in any case will be slow ~ I'd rather not take it fast and furious in any case but rather spend some time comparing notes ;)
You ok with that? And those that can't jump in right from the start, I'm sure there will be plenty of time to catch-up if so desired :)
I'll be on holiday in the second half of july.
I have HDM in French only and I don't know if I'm ready to read it in English (it's harder for me than you might suspect).... and I won't have the time before I leave to buy an English copy anyway.
All this said, will you bear with me?
I ordered the books from amazon. I am looking forward to joining the group. :)
And I hope you will bear with me too. Two weeks for one chapter are fine with me.
:D great to see so much enthusiasm :D :D
Have a great holiday fras and jump right back in when you're back. I'm sure we won't have moved lightyears ;)
Lhaewin: you're organized :D and of course we'll bear with you.
I've ammended the thread-title with more info in anticipation. It's going to be a mad busy week next week for me but that's just a very good excuse to start reading HDD again for relaxation. I'll make some notes and kick off sometime on the 16th/17th... or maybe 18th, as weekends are a bit tough for me to post. However, it's not like it has to be me who starts things off. If you're ready by that weekend, just go ahead an post.
Really looking forward to this :D
Hey! I just found out my brother (Taters) has this trilogy so if you don't mind I think I'll join you since I haven't read this series! :D
Aaaack! Me me me me me!!! :banana:
The Mr is going to start reading the books any moment now (he's just finishing another one), but I remember them, especially Northern Lights, well enough to contribute without having the books in front of me, I think. :)
