Finally finished reading :D

This may well be my favourite book of the series. Primarily because the climax packs the sort of punch I've not felt in the series so far. High emotion and a sense that a turning point of great magnitude has been reached. Harry's feeling of loss was horrible and very well written. You can feel the emptiness and the solemn, unwavering devotion to the task ahead. The death of Sirius was not really a life-changing event for Harry, but this was. The order of the world we've known has been thrown into chaos.

Seeing Dumbledore actually in trouble, suffering and dependent on Harry, was thrilling for a character who's always seemed in total control before. I am disappointed however, that Richard Harris, who WAS Dumbledore, cannot portray the character really getting interesting. He was perfect. :(

On finishing the book, I was stunned by Snape's apparant murder. Thankfully Eru was able to direct me here and show me that infact it's more likely he's still a good guy. What a fascinating character! And Malfoy too.. I never saw this twist to his role coming. It's unfortunate though that Malfoy lost all his dignity in the film version of PoA. I don't know if I can take him seriously in the films anymore after seeing him screaming like a girl, which is such a shame with his great material to come.

Dumbledore has to be dead. If he's not, then I will feel horribly manipulated by Rowling, and the end of book 6 cheapened beyond repair.

Yes, in this case, Iavas, there DOES appear to be evidence for a full-fledged Snape/Dumbledore conspiracy! :D ;) ;)

Must be why it's my favourite :P

One thing I remember not liking though, is when the narrator comments that Gryffindor and Slytherin hate each other because that's the way it's always been. This could be construed as a racist message: Hating someone purely because of where they come from. I don't like the fact that Harry etc. hate anyone in Slytherin simply because that's the tradition - they don't even give a Slytherin a chance before judging their character. That's an attitude that causes a lot of problems in the real world.

Well, it's been hinted that the divisions between the Houses are a mistake, so perhaps this actually is going to turn out to be a weakness and a problem at Hogwarts.

If HP7 shows that the divisions were a mistake, that will solve it. :)

I agree that the division--and reunification--of Houses will play a roll in the next book.

Didn't JKR say something in an interview about how we'd be meeting a "good" Slytherin? I always assumed it would be a student, but maybe she was refering to Slughorn (or Snape! :D ).

so whats the verdict, trialed by B77ians, on Snape?

I profess his innocence after a recent re-read of HBP. Switching from my initial verdict of guilty.

I think he did what Dumbledore had told him to do.

But I could be wrong.

Agreed. It pained him to have to do it, but Dumbledore asked him to. I don't think he ended up having much of a choice. And he knew everyone would hate him for it, but he did it anyway. :(

There's no way Alan Rickman could have done it willingly.

Did he use the Crucio curse on Harry though?

I'm going to re-read this book very soon.

He's also an (evil) scream as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves...

"Harry! I'm going to cut your heart out with a spoon!!!"

My favorite quote from the movie. :D

I'm about 2/3 through HBP because I realized that I didn't really remember what happened so now I'm re-reading it.

If you're waiting to read the part about the Snape cutting Harry's heart out with a spoon, it might take you awhile to find it.

For those who agree with me on the "Is Dumbledore really dead" issue, here's some pretty convincing theories.

It's interesting speculation, and there is certainly something to it. I have been thinking Dumbledore is dead but planned it. However, I won't be surprised if he is not.

The one bit that page poitns out that I hadn't thought of before, was how Harry was a WITNESS to what happened up there. Surely even Dumbledore weakened, with Harry, could have faught off Draco at least, and been prepared for the others.

Dumbledore needed Harry to see it... This could, of course, be to seal Snape's apparent betrayal in everyone's eyes, but it could also be to hide Dumbledore.

If Snape made the unbreakable vow to kill Dumbledore, though, he would have had to kill him.

True, but with the help of Fawkes, could he have been resurrected? Or is an unbreakable vow like an unforgivable curse. You have to mean it?
