Nice to see you out of the bushworks :D

A quenya baby book? :Q Now that was an interesting link!!
MONICA (f.) - Greek 'alone'; eresse "alone", so Eresse itself or Eressie
(though I spell mine with a 'k' of course ;) )

Unfortunately though, it would not do naming 'my' fell beast.. erm... Daniel or Michael or some such stuff :halo: and I don't think ruler of dark seeds quite cuts it either :P

so.... :scratch .. guess I need to be less lazy after all ;)

Could you have a go for me to translate (borrowing some of your suggestions):

Snake of darkness (I guess I could take sárango as a 'nickname')
Windrider (tame!)
Shadowsteed / Beast of shadows
Strong spirited beast / beast of strong spirit

In Sindarin I've seen some cool names translated. Perhaps there would be an 'equivalent' in Quenya?

- Eithor ("he who treats with scorn or insults" _eitha_ "to prick with a sharp point, to treat with scorn, insult
- Faechim ("steadfast, loyal spirit" )
- Brûnir ("old" -that has endured long) ~ yeah, that's the name I borred in our RP :halo: for an NPC
- Bellir "strong in body"

Thanks! Much appreciated :)

Snake of darkness could maybe be mornië + ango, morniango (as mornieango looks a bit awkward  )
leuca is an alternative word for snake, btw. Leucamornië ?

Súrë means wind
nóra-/run,ride; but roccar should mean rider (distantly related to "rohan", from rocco, horse :))
If you try to melt them together I'd make a word like Súroccar or roccasúrë, but I am no way sure of how to make compounds so I'm just guessing anyway :)

laman/celva is animal (beast or steed I didn't find)
Shadow is a little bit more extensive :P
Quote:
SHADOW lëo ( =shadow cast by an object) (shade), also laimë (shadow "cast by an object or form", VT45:8), lómin (shade), lumbulë (=[heavy] shadow), fuinë, huinë (= deep shadow) (gloom, darkness - according to VT41:8, fuinë is actually a Telerin form, the proper Quenya form being huinë), ungo (=dark shadow) (cloud), mordo (obscurity, stain, smear, dimness), lumbë (gloom). "The Shadow" meaning Sauron should probably be Huinë, as this word is associated with his coming to Númenor in LR:47 and SD:246/310.
lamalómin, celvungo, lamnilumbë are only a few of the possibilities...

tulca (or polda) is strong
spirit =
Quote:
SPIRIT fëa (= the spirit or "soul" of an incarnate, normally housed in a body; pl fëar is attested), ëala ("being"; pl. eälar is attested. Eälar are spirits whose natural state it is to exist without a physical body, e.g. Balrogs), súlë (Þ) (earlier [MET] thúlë, Þúlë) (maybe a more "impersonal" word for spirit), manu (= departed spirit; LT1:260 has mánë), fairë (= spirit in general, as opposed to matter, or a phantom or disembodied spirit, when seen as a pale shape. Pl. fairi is attested), vilissë (a "Qenya" word maybe not valid in LotR-style Quenya). A person's "spirit" meaning his or her general personality and attitude may be rendered by the word órë, in LotR defined as "heart, inner mind" (q.v.), cf. PM:337, where it is said that "there dwelt in her [Galadriel] the noble and generous spirit (órë) of the Vanyar".
But it's nearning one o'clock in the morning and I'm quite tired so my inspiration is even less than usual (oh god :P ) so I better go to sleep

good night :tired:

:Q WOW!

And thanks a lot for quoting extensively on 'shadow' and 'spirit'. Those definitions will come in VERY handy indeed and will make their way straight to my file :D

You're a star Didi  and a choice was easy. It shall be Mordo - simple and nice and oh so very close to Mordor which suits just perfectly well.

Owe ya! :D

May is Donuts and Trebuchets month – though I have not the slightest clue as to just what Trebuchets are and why you insist on spelling doughnuts – donuts ;) this is not stopping me!

Those quotes are from Ardalambion... You could just as well store the dictionary on your computer :D
Sad (for the lamers) that the www.ardalambion.com doesn't work anymore... Glad I know the www.uib.no/people/hnohf by heart :)

Hey Breogán!

Long time no see. I just assumed you'd been reduced to a quivering wreck after meeting Viggo and haven't been able to face the world yet :)

Glad to hear it. Maybe you can provide a little perspective on the Cuchulainn thread?
