And because I've already posted a language question in the other Dicisne hoc opus artem esse? thread...

What does Dicisne hoc opus artem esse? mean?

LOL, in my more polite reading it said: Do you say that this work is art? :P (Dunno, just doesn't sound so much like saying it's not, I guess ;) )

Ok, languages and poems and stuff, too - excellent!

Don't you say this is art? (that -ne is a question asking for negation)

But why are we asked to be silent here? This is a messageboard and I SHOUT WHEN I LIKE!
And make noise! boom! Bang! throw cans about (tin cans, not Canamarths)

[whispers] I love Nemi too! [/whispers]
There's a Nemi strip in Metro (the free newspaper they give you in the bus) and every time I read it I'm reminded of Nienor.

*Curious* What do they do with the inside Norwegian jokes/places/names when they translate Nemi into English?

I don't know... but I do get a distinct feeling that the strip is translated, somehow (I didn't know it was Norwegian, but was sure it wasn't English).
I'll see if I can find a link...

Aha!

http://www.metro.co.uk/metro/standard/a ... _page_id=1

:D

:LMAO: So funny to see her in English - cause yes, she's as Norwegian as the cheese planer.

*Grumbles over a slight mis-translation*

Nemi's a part of the Norwegian comic revolution that has come these last years.

But I do wonder what they do with all the references to things like the Norwegian crown princess, our prime minister, Norwegian whaling and wolf hunting po'ed and so on. And especially all the jokes about Oslo. Oslo is very much Nemi's city.

(Like today's Nemi - all about Oslo, Bjørnson and Hamsun (the tiger they're sitting on is very famous (in Norway), and emphasizes the joke))

Of course. You're a couple of years behind anyway, so... :P:mrgreen:

What are the 'squares' in a strip really called in English? Can't find any special word in the word book... Oh well. Square.

First square:
Nemi says: "The Tiger City*... I like that it's called that. Imagine. Here walked Bjørnson and Hamsun and wrote about the city's claws and teeth..."

Second square:
Nemi quotes Hamsun: "Kristiania**, this strange city that no one leaves until he's marked by it."
Cyan says: "And not everyone gives up then, either..."
Someone shouts: "There's the woman who set fire to my fur coat!"

Or something... ;)

* 'The Tiger City' is a nickname for Oslo.
** Kristiania is the old name for Oslo.

So, is that why Nemi has a black eye?? :D BTW< the sections in a cartoon are called 'panels' for some reason. Squares makes sense, too, though.

Looks at the English version of the strip...second one down...OMG!!! :damnfunny

She is a b***h, isn't she?
