You read fast, Eru! :D :Q

When first reading the trilogy I too was peeved when Arthur and co. entered the picture... actually, I was peeved even before that, rolling my eyes at the blatant Tolkien "echoes" or what I thought were more like "ripoffs" when I first ventured through the work... :P:P:P

...but somehow, inexplicably, by the end of it all, after crying and laughing and having my heart ache because of Kay's words... I just went "wow". Somehow it all comes together very beautifully and makes sense... and the way that Kay intertwined his source materials, be they Tolkien or Celtic Legend, instead of being annoying became beautiful and admirably skillful in retrospect.

I dont even remember what is contained in the last book per se, my last re-read was a while ago and I remember the story as a whole...

Im glad you are enjoying it overall though, at least enough to keep going ! ;)

Bumping the Kay sw00n central :)

Some two days ago, GGK himself posted on the brightweavings forums that he has now finished the next book's draft... :Q  weeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's being tight lipped about it all for now... the book is due out in Canada sometime Spring 2007 I believe... but will appear in the Penguin (I think?) catalogue with a blurb about it sometime in April/May?
I cant wait! *jumps up and down*

There is a dearth of news about the Al-Rassan movie... I hope they are making headway there and something will surface soon... anyone know anything?
Should we resume our casting call ideas? :P

Only another year to wait?

Dammit, I love Kay books so much, I don't want to wait. I mean, on the one hand, it's great that he works so hard on the books, cause that's what makse them wonderful. I would hate it if he did some sort of Robert Jordan thing. On the other hand, there are too few Kay books. The man is such an incredible writer - I can never get enough of him.

As for the movie, I haven't heard anything new. I was thinking of doing a new search just today, in fact. I haven't yet, but now I think I'm gonna :D

YAY! Someone else posted :D ;)

Yes, Kay does not churn out the books nearly fast enough... but thats part of his charm because they are well researched, and very much UNLIKE stuff like Jordan (pukes) :P

I can't wait to hear more about the new book... I wonder what time period and place in history it is based on this time...

I should go for a re-read of some Kay books soon. Raf's been reading Lions (he just finished), and I've been getting the urge to read again... I seem to have passed on the Kay bug to him
He has bought the trilogy on his own, withough my prodding, after I have given him Tigana, Last Light and Lions, all of which he has read and liked :D

*obligatory Kay sw00nage* :Wooper:

and  s for the Stelly!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'm going to try to go see if I can find Lions in Half Price books as I'll need reading material for my trip.

I am really excited that Kay is writing a present meets alternate dimension/past/fantasy kind of book. I have loved every one of his books that I have read and I can't imagine that this one will disappoint me.

I a lot of praise for Kay from many of the people here and at HoF, so I decided to read him for myself and see. :D Right now I'm about a third of the way through "A Song For Arbonne" which was the only Kay book that the local library had on shelf. I'm pleased with it so far, Kay's writing is very enjoyable. The only real complaint I have is that some of the characters seem to be a little, well, exaggerated. Though I've heard that "Arbonne" is not his best work, so I'll hopefully have something to look forward to as I read some of his other novels.

Hey, Estellie.... I've gotten my own laptop, now, so I have no excuse not to be online at least every once in a while. I miss you lots, chica, but it is plenty my own fault because I have been too lazy to pick up the telephone and call you.

I absolutely loved this :LMAO:

[quote="By Guy Gavriel Kay (Ggk) on Friday, July 07, 2006 - 4:00 pm:"]

So, what do you do with this? Catherine Marjoribanks, copy-editrix since A SONG FOR ARBONNE, at end of p[preliminary meeting, says briskly (copy-editors tend to be brisk), ‘You know, you always give the cleanest copy I get.’

How does one handle such an appalling insult? I mean, given that one self-defines as a (slightly) less disheveled prototype for Jack Sparrow, an artiste, a big picture dude, idea man, Byronesque rogue? CIVIL SERVANTS give neat copy, dammit!

It’ll serve her right if nex time I delivr a manuscript FILLD with typos and grammmatical errers and stuff; [quote]

According to imdb.com they MAY HAVE (rumoured) cast someone named David K. Zandi as Alvar in the Lions of Al-Rassan movie.

David - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1377352/

Reference for the listing - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443572/

Lots of info about him on Wikipedia as well

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_K._Zandi

I don't know if I'd go with it, but.... will have to see. He seems to have too much of a Jesus look about him, lol :blackeye: :P

The only work by GGK I've got is a printed version of Tigana ... and when I say printed, it means printed, no book, just random sheets of paper :bawl: It's very difficult to find fantasy books in my country, and to order them from abroad it's impossible, for the moment, at least. I don't have any knowledge about an online version of his other works, so, as much as I would love to comment on them, I cannot. And this makes me sad.

I just finished reading Tigana!!! It was    and I was :bawl: when it was all done and there was no more to read. The only other Kay book that I had read was A Song for Arbonne, and although I really liked that one, Tigana was much better. I also have a copy of Sailing to Sarantium, and I'm going to start that as soon as I finish the current fantasy book I'm reading (Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind).
