If you've feel like a poet with a stirring muse,
here's a thread for you all to use.
And here's one to light the fuse...

___________________

My eyes wander,
My mind searches for a deeper goal:
Something to keep me in focus,
Through these hard times.

Scarred and slandered,
My spirit so bitter, and I have buried my soul.
I turn away from the Iron Cross
And search back through time.

I find a higher meaning, in the days of old
And engraved it in my heart.
To keep me going when pain returns
And love has taken a pause.

And as I wait for adversaries bold,
And friends to leave and depart,
My soul is back; my spirit burns
And I’ve recovered a lost cause.

An older poem, which I posted in Rwhen's thread at TORC: Writing.

On adventures, from path to path,
Where lay an ancient dwarven wrath
The elves did travel, swords in hands
To claim and conquer distant lands.

Surprises were scattered along the way,
Where greedy men in ambush lay.
Falling on the elves with mighty force,
And slaughtering without remorse.

Yet the discipline of the elves did prevail
And many a widow in the end did wail,
As bodies were brought home, cold and white,
To lie silently buried in dark nights.

The claim of the elves was quickly brought down,
By dwarven king with golden crown,
Who had ruled the lands and had intentions none,
To give himself that easily won.

He thus brought his army to battle ground,
Where they with great dismay found
An elven host of immensity
From which the dwarves could naught but flee.

Chaos ruled the dwarven host
And total defeat seemed terribly close,
When dragon wings soared through the sky
And the elves of fear then cried.

For the dragon, an alliance with dwarves had made,
And brought death and destruction in its wake.
Thus the dwarves rallied again,
And ran the elves off their lands.

Ever since that fateful day,
Never again did the elves display
Any claim of what was not their own,
And in return were left alone.

Today I am a blank page
twisting in the wind.

I could just die,
dissolved in the rain,
over a blue, blurry horizon.

I touch TORC lightly, like a shimmer of code,
Like an ethereal ghost I float from place to place,
veiled to my eyes, everything seems so far away.

I took a step back, went back to hide.
The atmosphere worsened, so now I'm biding my time.
My prime is gone, so I'm bac to the shadow
in times of darkness the shadow is light,
I think I've earned my pause in this fight, so with a little time away:
I'll catch my breathe and run, so I can live to fight another day.

:grouphug:

Take it easy for awhile, Ber...:)

That was actually a poem I wrote ages ago (literally - I think I was 19), in Spanish. It doesn't sound as good in translation though...

Hoy soy una página en blanco
Que gira en el viento.

Siento deseos de morirme,
o de disolverme en lluvia,
en un horizonte azul y desvaído.

I just thought it fitted my mood. :)

Finally I got the time to look in here and pay attention to something I dearly love - reading other people's writing and poetry. :)
I've never been good with poetry (not in English anyway) and probably will never be, maybe that's why I admire people who can. Keep it going... you'll have a faithful lurker in me
 and  to you both

Well ... this is a lovely place and I am afraid my poetry is not nearly up to the level of these fine posters. I never had the courage to post this in TORC but I will take the plunge and put it here :

THis is a poem for my son :

Little one so peacefully asleep
Tears now dried
Breathing soft and deep
I touch your dark curls
Tenderly with care
I whisper your name
Together with my prayer
'May you always know how truly
I love you my son.
May your laughter quicken joyf'lly
Around everyone.
Dream with determination
With vision and with dare
Give easily and freely
Show others that you care
All I ask as your mother
Is that happily you'll grow
Into the man that I see here
Within the child I know.'

Titch....

The first poem I posted on TORC....

The sky is made out of dreams
And not like it seems
If it were out of air
How could I bear
The blue of your eyes
That speak truth, never lies
And the love that I give
To the life you will live
Makes the stars shine so bright
Like a smile to your night.

When we walked home form the park in the shining sunlight, suddenly my tender little sweetheart, aged four, asked me: Mummy, what is the sky made of?
I answered: Of air and other gazes, I think. And he said: Oh no, the sky is made out of dreams. So this is how this poem came to my mind.

I hesitate to close Hades poetry thread on TORC an to bring things over here... only I don't want to scare people ;)

I think the poems you've posted as Hades are fabulous. You do have an impressive command of blank verse and I definitely urge you to carry on sharing it with us!

In these dark times, in this dark place,
her love shines like a beacon aflame.
Trough tears, I see her radiating figure
standing in the portal from which I came.
I stand up, neglecting pain.
I run up to her, embrace her again.
If this is hell then so be it.
I've lived my life as I saw fit, and if this is my punishment,
I'll take it like a man.
As long as her smile is in my view
I won't be touched by the pain.

For all my bad choices and all my faults:
Accepting her love compensates all.

Ber: Wow, I like the Spanish version even better. Then again, Spanish is a very melodic language (to the Dutch anyway...)

Alandriel: If you want to post poetry in any other language, you're more than welcome to. If my Dutch poetry was better than my English (which it's not...) I'd post some as well...;)

Titch: You underestimate yourself and you overestimate me...

I love your poem, so post more! :)

Nin: I never read Hades' poetry yet. Got a link, or do I have to search? :P

And by all means, post some or all here.

Aglanor...

It's a lot and quite a dark lot, so I would open a thread of its own...

A link - well that would mean that I would have to go to THAT place. I don't know if I'm ready for it and would not succomb to lurkdom.

This is beautiful, Aglanor. Inspired by whom I think of???

Thanks for the link, Leoba! :D

And Nin: Some great stuff in there. Moody, but I have very little happy poetry myself. Absolutely love it!
Nin wrote:

She is the 'she' in the poem, yes. Though the subject itself is kind of inspired by a comic* (teh geekness!!) which is about a damned soul, who fights his damnation and in the end gets salvation, though the spirit of his loved one.

*only in retrospect, though. It occurred to me, 2 huors after posting it...

Every word is the last word
Nothing sweeter could be said
No more roses could be sung
No more dreams rise

Every kiss is the first kiss
Never fell so deep before
Never been so lost in touch
Never found you.

Every day is a new day
And dreams of words fall
Like kisses on my lips
From your touch.

It did not fit in Hades thread.....

I am not a poet, but my first girlfriend wrote poetry that I still think was astounding. She was only about 15 at the time, I was 17, but I still have it.

I haven't seen her for nearly 20 years. Would it be wrong to share them here?

Alatar

Alatar, I don't think it would be wrong if you mention it's not you who wrote it (or post it in the "Favourite poems" thread)

Me curious now.....

"She" by Rebekah

She kicked a stone
violently
then stopped and picked it up
She wondered at it
at it's smoothness
at the cool roundness of it
it's stubborn greyness
the spherical perfection
the years of formation
the heat of it's furnace birth
She stroked it
and felt it's frictionless invisibility
the corners worn away
then at the distracting
call of a curlew
she threw away a past
and went in search of a future

forgetting why
if at all
why she was angry
to begin.

"Rebekah" by Rebekah

A waft of words
   about her head
 singing a song
     only she can hear

A deliberate jumble
    yet she can choose
         the right word
             for the right time
    a punishing gift
         to be forced to
             stick your soul on paper

criticism from others
     can be so hurtingly personal
     yet she keeps writing
           her verbal jigsaws
     while pushing her hair
           from her face
                with her hands
