I am busy re-reading the entire series in preparation for this summer's new arrival. What the heck, will probably manage to view the three movies as well. I think I am a geek. :Q  :D

Then you are in excellent company, Lacemaker. :D

I really do like OOTP. It's just that Hagrid's plots often seem to be a waste of time, and that bit goes on too long (I think) in OOTP.

Umbridge is a brilliant character. I have had the misfortune of knowing an Umbridge or two. Academic institutions breed them.

Hating Umbridge is actually fun. Maybe it releases endorphins or something.

Really? That made me so tense and frustrated. Feeling like that is precisely why I OotP is my least favorite book. It wasn't fun.

I've not been keeping up with Harry Potter stuff at all this time around. I haven't even preordered my book! I ought to get that sorted out. I won't be reading the series though...don't have time!

Yea, i don't think i'll have time to read the series all over again either.....for thing, i've already read them one too many times, so reading 'em again is sorta pointless. And i just re-read Ootp :D

On the Umbridge thing....i'm with Eru. It wasn't fun, it was downright frustrating the things she did. But she really was an excellent new character. A different sort of villian, y'know. But i think i was so frustrated by what she was doing to the school it took away some of the enjoyment from the book.

And Hagrid's scenes were definetly too long and tedious, and unless Rowling has some other use for Grawp in the furture books, completely pointless. Although, on that point, it would be interesting if the giants joined in the fighting at the end. I know i'd like it :D

I'm not even gonna think about the fact that there's only two left....and soon there'll only be one..... :bawl: :bawl: And i can't even geek over the movies cause i hate them..... :(

Let's savour it while i lasts though!! HP all the way!!! :D :D :D

Yahoo! tells a strange tale: people in the vicinity of where the books is being printed are placing above average bets on the death of Dumbledore in the 6th book.

To be honst, I would be gravely disappointed if this would "happen" - it would mean that JKR adapted an all-too-hollywooden style of climax (killing an innocent bystander, killing a minor character, killing a major character, killing a pivotal character, killing - the main character).

Plus, I got to like that old feller. :)

I love the way he's so powerful and everyone's completely in awe of him, and he's just this wonderful mad old man. "I have a few words to say to you before we begin the year, and here they are. Nitwit! Oddment! Tweak! Blubber! Thank you." and his sherbert lemons... :damnfunny

Well, if Dumbledore is the character Harry is now most depending on emotionally, then I agree: he's toast.

First Harry loses a companion, to teach him about death; then he loses the closest thing he has to a parent; the next logical progression would be to lose someone he loved who was also actually vital to his safety.

:(

I really hope not. Sirius was bad enough. Rowling doesn't need to do a big death again. That would destroy Harry. A kid can only take so much.

Ah, but there's a tried-and-true principle of storytelling: "Put your character in a bad spot, and then make it worse."

Over seven long books I imagine it will get pretty bad. :)

I expect Dumbledore to die at the end of the seventh book during the final showdown. It would not make so much sense to kill him so long before the end, but I am convinced that another important character will find a more or less dreadful end. :(

Considering the way it's going, I'd be not surprised at all if Harry is not the survivor of that final duel. JKR has a mean side.

I hear that he turns to the Dark Side, becomes Voldemort's apprentice, and kills all the wizards at Hogwarts. :Q

I'm with Prim on hating Umbridge.

At first it was annoying, but now I enjoy it. She was created to hate, might as well revel in it  .

As far as Star Wars references go... The Emperor has always been one of my favorite characters too :D. There's something almost satisfying in a character that is such pure evil... (and yes, I consider Ubridge more evil than Voldemort at some levels).

She's the evil you're likely to actually run into. Few Voldemorts. Many Umbridges.

JKR wouldn't kill Dumbldore. I think there'd be a mutiny if she did. I'd certainly commit mutiny!!!

Yea, ok, so i jump in when you guys have moved on to a different topic, but what the hell.

D'you know i'm a hopeless for HP fanfiction? I mean, most of it is TRASH, but there are some gems if you rumage around in the bin. Lucky for me, i've managed to find some really good ones in various fanfic websites.....lemme know if anyone's interested :)

gosh, fanfics are the bane of my life - if you link me i will murder you peeg :P

Umbridge (loving-to) hate'er here :D

As for who'll get bumped off in the end... yes i'd go for Dumbledore i suppose... and i wouldn't be surprised if he dies of a heartattack, considering Sirius' pathetic death. :P

Yeah, Sirius deserved a much more dramatic exit- with plenty of blood and gore. Or is it just me who thinks that?

Harry being with him in his dying moments would have been a lot more poingant for me- he's too young to properly recall seeing his parents die. Did he see Cedric Diggory die? :scratch

Ah...but there's still the mystery of the black veil and think of what Luna Lovegood said. Maybe that wasn't the last time we're going to see Sirius...one can hope.

Another one loving to hate Umbridge here. :D
