Green Gables tale darkens in final book

This could be one of the most important literary events of the past few years - the recently-discovered last novel of the Anne series has just been released last week (and I somehow didn't find out about it until today).
Quote:
Noting a reference in the author's 1942 obituary to her having dropped off a manuscript on the day of her death — now believed to be a suicide — Lefebvre investigated and discovered the document.

"This was submitted. This is not an incomplete work she left when she died," he told CBC News.

"She did finish it. She wanted it published, and so what is coming out is her final book in the form she wanted it to be published in."

Cool. I thought I already owned all the books she had written, so to find out that there is another is wonderful. To be honest, my favorite book by her is "Rilla of Ingleside" and it is because it is darker than many of her other books. Looking forward to this.

Is this a joke? Is this true? :Q

(Jude, I will hurt you if this is a joke. :dragon: )

I'm sooooo excited!!!!

(But I didn't know she committed suicide. :( You know, I've never read a biography of her; I think I need to do that.)

According to the article, it's true. And I saw the entry on amazon.

Read the article - apparently her suicide only came out in the 1980s.

I saw it on Amazon, too, so you're safe from my wrath, Jude.

I am really quite excited about this, though.

Well, you could at least have the decency to pretend you were frightened. :suspicious:

Eek? That's the best you could come up with? Howsa bout, say "Shriek of Terror" as if Grignr himself was about to assault you?

Faced with the enraged, ravening She-Beast of the multitrudinous Land of Zotzibar, Grignr felt a piercing scream wind its slow, plodding way from the podiatric toes of his nether extremities to the grease-filled trichiatric mane of cephalic growth on his pate (without which he would have been as bald as the squat and hideous idol of the dreaded Temple of Fee-Fee) and exclaimed with bold terror, "Fie upon thee, enraged ravening She-Beast! Return to the multitrudinous Land of Zotzibar from whence thou camest! Ee... ee... eeeeeeek!!!111"

Now, rewrite the above in the style of L. M. Montgomery.

Now, rewrite the above in the style of L. M. Montgomery.
Outside Grignr's humble abode, the wild cherry trees had burst into glorious bloom, a zephyr brought the salt-tang of the ocean through the window where, at eventide, Grignr was wont to lean and dream of a starry future. Just now he felt a shiver of fright as Mrs. Dunwoodie of Dun-Roamin Farm (also known as The Ravening She-Beast) turned from the red roadway and walked through the arbour where, later in the summer, masses of roses would spill their heavenly perfume on the warm air. Mrs. Dunwoodie looked cross and well she might, since naughty Grignr had gone berserk that afternoon and slaughtered all her cows, leaving a horrid path of entrails across the pastures of Dun-Roamin farm. Grignr knew he was in for it. A spanking, possibly. No supper and straight to bed, for sure. He whimpered.

I ordered it. It isn't released yet.

(I also pre-ordered Alison Weir's book on Anne Boleyn. It looks like she has another fiction book coming out, too! This one's about Eleanor of Aquitaine! )

It was released last week in Canada

I've decided to reread the whole series before I get the new book. I've been meaning to for ages anyway.

You know, I'm amazed that this hasn't received more publicity. I mean, a new Anne book?

I found an article by the L M Montgomery Research Group with minor spoilers. Avoiding the spoilers, some of the interesting facts are:

1. It takes Anne and her family a full two decades beyond anything else Montgomery published

2. Some of it was published in severely abridged form as "The Road to Yesterday". Anyone read this?

3. It's divided into two sections - before and after the 1914 - 1918 war.

A lot more that I wish I had avoided reading until I've read the book. :blackeye:

For once, I'm going to avoid spoilers. I'm that excited about it!

I have read "The Road to Yesterday," but it's been so long I don't remember much of it. I should go dust it off. Or maybe I shouldn't. ??
