Who has discovered the excellent Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch? A junior police constable thinks he sees a ghost at night in Covent Garden and a suave observer introduces himself.

What's the name of the first book in the series? I'll reserve it from my library...

The first one is called The Rivers of London and that is used to group
the subsequent titles in the series. It has a big fan base now.

Oooo, I love that series! Haven’t read it in ages though and I think at least 1, if not 2 new books have come out since I read it last. Going to have to give it a reread.

I think Din enjoys them as well, if you want to give him a poke to get back here :poke:

Odd - my library has many books in the series but not the first one.

I'll try my local book shop - from your description it sounds like something I would like.

You need to read them in order as there is a narrative sequence in many of them. The graphic novels are minor interludes that can be enjoyed in any order after the first couple of books are under your belt.

So this is confusing - my book came in and it's actually a graphic novel. It's called "Body Work" but it was listed as Book #1.

I've scrolled through all the results but there isn't anything just called "Rivers of London". The other possibility is "Midnight Riot", which is also listed as Book #1.

Will I spoil anything if I go ahead and read Body Work first?

Kindle tools me that Midnight Riot was the first book. I wanted to see if they'd do the thing where they give you the first book in the series for free or at very cheap, but no.

I'm half-way through Midnight Riot and I've already ordered Moon Over Soho. The series looks promising.

I'd forgotten that Rivers of London was renamed Midnight Riot in North America. Apparently the cover has a silhouette of a man with a gun which is hilarious considering the story is of a Brit junior cop. I'm not even certain if a gun appears in the novel.
