It's going to happen - yessss precious... we'll make a new RP forum and maybe before long we'll have at least one story in there  (it's under email discussion right at the moment).

However - I did like all the suggestions of names that have come forward and so I simply suggest a vote... and the winner will win

Choose wisely
(but we can always rename it again in the future :D )

I can't put all the names up - there are too many. So we'll do this 'manually' lol. Post your preference please:

The Library?

HOME of stories

Shelf of tales

Night tales

1002 days.

There and never to come back again

(I'd like to offer a more postive varient here):

There and back again (in the positive spirit of Tolkien despite the fact that not many RP journeys will probably end where they've started)

Unseen Library

Player's heaven

Sheherazade's place

The Book of lost Characters

Shelob's lair

Amon Dîn

Dindraugs playground

'The wolfs Lair'

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I'll start of by putting my vote for (yes, yes, I'm self-serving but it's kind of Areanor's idea )

There and back again
I could also very happily live with many of the others, let me confuse you and say I particularly like also The Book of lost Characters (although the purist in me yells -> leave it at the original title)
[/b]

"The Library"

However, could we please decide whether this board will become the "home away from home" or whether it'll be another website? This came up in the invitation thread, that this board was primarily for "the resistence" (or whatever) and that it wouldn't become our refugee camp. I just don't feel very good about it being so exclusive when we're not just doing petition (and post-petition) business here.

Hmm, I think there's a thread to be started.

I like Player's Heaven and Night Tales

It just has a sort of calm feeling to them.

However, Night Tales reminds me too much of that hideous Heath Ledger film. Or suggests either horror or porn.

And if we went with Player's Heaven we ought at least to get the apostrophe in the right place (on the other side of the 's') unless it's just one player doing the playing.

My personal preference I think is There and Back Again. It has a nice tale-telling ring to it, even without the Tolkien connotation. But the Tolkien link is important IMO, even with other genres to play with, the Professor is still our common bond.

 But that was exactly the reason why I didn't put that down... :P

Leoba, sorry, claim that apostrophe mistake to a post at four in the morning by a stupid german who's never sure about where to put them exactly.

I'm sorry for poking about it areanor. I can't seem to help being really anal where punctuation is concerned. You may pull faces at me if I'm being snippy.:P

Apostrophes are actually really simple little critters most of time. I'm very tempted to send you a copy of "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" by Lynne Truss, which is a fantastically humorous look at hideous grammar. Though maybe when it comes out in paperback and costs a little less to post.

I want a copy too

For me, that Tolkien binds us is an important link and I think it would be kinda great to have the name in that spirit :)
Just wanted to add that so I'm keeping the thread on topic

.. and Areanor, you forgot to tell us your favorite

Over the hills and far away

And I wonder if there will ever be a RP where they all will come back and find their house ready to be auctioned.

hmm

The Red Book of Westmarch

The Thain's book

Reckoning of Years

Scribbled stories

The Púkel-men Realm

:halo:

And Leoba, I don't mind you pecking on that. I might do the same in a german-speaking forum.........

I like 'There and back again' as well ;)

What I was thinking though is that the forum should be the name of the Inn, which sits someplace, and any character form any story can just roll in. I know its a standard in fantasy literature, but it does work.

Ummm, now what to call it......

'The Silent Wolf' would of course be fun, but my ego ain't that big ;)

But my favorite at the moment is 'The Man in the Moon'.

This came from Leoba, and is just a fab name from the nursery rhyme anyway, and the Tolkien link (Frodo's poem from the Prancing Pony) when she was trying to remember where the line 'There is an inn, a merry old inn, beneath an old grey hill..' etc

So that will be my choice

Slighty as a sideline to the topic of this thread...

I've been giving some thought to rules and guidelines for the B77 RP forum. I know it's early days yet and so far we have limited plans.

Nonetheless, I really really want this to not just be a closed-shop bound by precedent for experienced RPers, but a route into collaborative writing for anyone who wants to do it, whatever their writing style, language or preferred genre.

So... with that in mind, how's about having a sticky thread at the top of the forum, when it opens, outlining what's a total no-go and giving some hints and tips? I've drafted this based on personal experience and preferences, so feel free to suggest additions and/or deletions as you think fit.

Creative and Collaborative Writing on Board 77

Rules

The scribbling of fiction is such an individual thing, that it would be wrong for any of us to try and impose a set style to be conformed to. However, for the sake of maintaining quality and collective pride in what we can do, the following Rules do apply:

1) Do not use ‘Netspeak’

2) Please do your best to use correct spelling and grammar

3) No porn. If your characters want to go shag, do it ‘off-camera’; subtlety is so much sexier.

4) The thread-starter is the owner of the tale. They are responsible for instating any further rules they wish their story to adhere to

Helpful Hints

* Don’t kill someone else’s character without their permission - they might not like it! On the same note, treat others’ characters with respect.

* Pay attention to what’s going on in the story and make sure that what you write fits in.

* If you’re not able to write for a time, let the people you’re writing with know. Either arrange for someone to ‘carry you’ or, if the story-line is fast flowing, have the courtesy to write yourself out.

* Take heed: all-knowing, all-powerful, all-wise characters are Boring! Take time to create a character that works and has potential for development within the overall ethos of the tale you wish to tell.

* If you want a story to be a success, give some thought before you start to basic plot ideas and outline. The little details and the sub plots should work themselves out as you go, but everyone involved does need to know what the overall purpose is if you want to pull together as a team.

Useful Places

* Creating Memorable Characters

* Historical Fiction Writers’ Resources

* Encyclopaedia of Arda – for the Tolkien fanfic writers amongst us. ;)

Good set of hints and tips Leoba :D , may I add that when someone's involved in a 'heavy' RP (if one gets started) that communication between writers is important for dialogues and such.

;) just in case

It has happened, at least initially and you should all have permissions for now.

So have fun. The name is not set in stone at all, it was just what was used to set it up. When we have final consensus we will have a formal nameing ceremony of something.

Have fun

Does that answer your question? I was kind of wondering whether this thread should be in there. Somewhere to discuss what we want, you know.
