I'm afraid I would object to moving them into that forum, as I do not believe that they have the kind of historical interest that all of the other threads in there have.

I suggest moving them to the deleted storage forum, or to just get rid of them altogether.

Or at least locked, and perhaps moved...deleting a thread outright is against Article 8.

Oh I think they hold historical interest.
They are a reminder of how po'ed people get when there are too many polls.

Yes.:
Quote:
Article 8: Policy on Thread Deletions
Ratified August 8, 2005
Our policy is to not delete threads for any reason except those stated in this Article.
1: Routine Exceptions
Obsolete Announcements, obsolete FAQ threads, and Jury Room threads used by the various committees in their work may be moved to the forum entitled Threads of Historical Interest.

The only provision under which they could probably be deleted would be this one:
Quote:
¶2: Other Exceptions
If it seems necessary to delete a thread in order to preserve the peace, security or continuance of the board, a Binding Vote of the membership must be held to do this.
I think calling for a binding vote to delete these threads would be overkill.

I suppose the best Charter-supported option would be to move them to the Threads of Hysterical [;)] Interest forum, as TP suggested.

What Holby said. :D

Oh, why bother deleting them? Honestly, they'll have dropped to page two in 24 hours and all the poor posters who didn't sign on this afternoon will hear about the outrage and drama and wonder what it is they missed. We don't want anyone to feel left out, do we? :D

I think I would just shoot myself first.

Hi thewhitetree!

The Thinking of England forum is a forum with special rules since people post some personal stuff there. You have to apply for access to it specifically after you've been a board77 member for a while and people get to know you. My suggestion is to keep posting in the other forums and get to know the members before you apply for permission to that forum.

IIRC, you need to have been a member for 3 months, possibly have made a certain number of posts, and definitely be over 18 in order to post there.

I'd say that, considering that most of the people who posted on that forum are no longer here and therefore have no say on whether it's okay for new people to see their posts, that it's best to not let strangers view those posts.

Alas it does seem like the days of the online discussion forum are in irreversible decline. D'you reckon people will come back after the Hobbit movie?

I don't know. Do you think it's in decline in general? Or just LotR-related boards?

TORC is rumbling along, and TORN is practically as busy as ever. These splinter boards though are pretty much dead. :(

That's interesting because I wasn't sure if it was an overall issue or just an issue here. (HoF is busier than b77. I mostly avoid TORC, and I've never been on TORN. So I can't judge correctly.)

I was sort of thinking that Facebook had leached away people from messageboards. Maybe that's an incorrect view?
