I thought Stephen Fry playing a celibate homosexual was quite funny given that's how he is in real life.
Is that true or it that a joke I'm not getting? I really liked his character.

He's far from celibate. He's in a long term relationship.

Alan Moore has every right to dissociate himself from Hollywood, given what they have done to him in the past. Ugly stories there. But he missed the boat on this one, which came as close as one might reasonable expect to capturing one of his pieces on film.

Wolfgangbos has it right...V needed someone else to go through at least some of what he had in order to validate what he was, what he had done. But he does not turn Evey into a monster, because the context and reason are different...she is freed, but not distorted.

It doesn't make what he does right. I think we are supposed to get that it's at best ethically dubious and at worst morally repugnant...but within the context of the society she lives in, is it better or worse than living every moment in fear? The cure is bad, very bad, but worse than the disease?

Now, what I find revealing about the scenes that bug Lidless are the implications they have for V's state of mind, not in what he does, but in the fact that he had the entire thing built and ready for...what?

Absinthe can be green. It can also turn one green. I distinctly remember Lidless's face flashing just a hint of green when he tried it.

Anyway, I did think the love story angle was handled in a clunky fashion. Well-intentioned, and designed to redeem V a bit from his life as a Scourge of God, but it didn't work for me. Thankfully they blew stuff up and played the 1812 Overture right after that, so it was easy to gloss over. :D

8/10

I have a record of the 1812 with cannons going off at the end, so now I'll never be able to listen to it again without re-envisioning the fireworks.

Alright, I'm a dollar-theatre fiend. I'd rather be behind the movie trends by a few months than spend full price at the regular cinema and be disappointed dramatically. (The disappointment's not as intense if I've not spent more than $1.50 :D )

I like a bold revolution every now and then, so the film made me happy in that respect. However, I did have one glaring question at the end: V, the great instigator, is dead, and Evey and the detective seem to prefer standing off to the sideline, so who will continue leading this great revolution? Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anyone singled out as the one to set the country to rights again.

I went in hoping for sheer entertainment, and I wasn't disappointed. :D

Finally saw this on the plane back from England.

AWESOME. One of the best movies I've seen in ages. And not just because it makes subtle references to 9/11 being an inside job.

Will be buying on DVD for sure.

You mean "despite", not "because", of course.

I finally saw this one. Disturbing. At the end I thought, "I wonder if this is what the next 20 years holds?" and cried.

I'm in the didn't like it camp. Couldn't go with have Evey was treated by V.

Plus the way the part was done there with the added handwritten story of the girl whose story was pushed over to Evey was very discordant to the rest fo the movie. I was puzzled about what was going on there for a while. That just didn't fit IMHO. The story was compelling but it felt like a rabbit trail in the middle of the movie.

I rather liked it. Finally got a chance to see this film just the other day. I thought it was well put together.

I'm with REL though in that I found the whole lesbian woman subplot while Evey was in prison to be sidetracking...

I liked the story, there were flaws and its not the best movie ever made (it's no The Matrix) but I found it quite enjoyable and will probably watch it again. :)

Really? I thought it was amazing. Touches me deeply every time I see it. And because we see Valerie in small glimpses throughout the whole movie, and because of Evey's situation, I don't think it is sidetracking - it felt natural to me. And it takes the cruelness of the regime down on a more personal level: important.

And I love Valerie's voice. :)

I do agree that the story was somewhat distracting, especially in a movie as dark as this one is.

However, I also think it simply illustrates how dark the world around Evey has become.
