Pat Robertson has predicted that a terrorist attack on the United States would result in mass killing sometime after September 2007:
Quote:
In what has become an annual tradition of prognostications, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said yesterday that God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would result in "mass killing" late in 2007. "I'm not necessarily saying it's going to be nuclear," he said during his news-and-talk television show The 700 Club on the Christian Broadcasting Network. "The Lord didn't say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that." Mr. Robertson said God told him during a recent prayer retreat that major cities, and possibly millions of people, will be affected by the attack, which should take place some time after September.
Why do I even mention this? I guess I'm creating this thread as a sort of placeholder to call him to account on whether his "prophecy" is accurate or not. If I forget, I hope someone will remember to bump this thread in early 2008.

P.S. "annual tradition of prognostications"? How good is his track record?

Pat robertson is scum. Of course there will be a "mass killing" at some point in the future by a terrorist... no matter how good our defense is, they'll get through.

If it's in late 2007... Robertson will now make millions... because people are stupid. If not, he can throw it off and claim it must have been a shooting spree in a robbery... or a terrorist attack somewhere else in the world... that he saw in his vision or whatever.

He's tryign to profit off of a potential mass killing... he should be arrested and jailed for life...

From what I remember, he did predict G.W. Bush to win the presidency in 2004. However, he almost had to given his support of Bush. And even then, predicting the winner of a 50/50 chance vote isn't very impressive. He predicted that a major weather event (possibly something akin to a tsunami) would hit the U.S. in 2006. I'm not aware of any other of his predictions.

Was there such a storm in the U.S. in 2006?

I'm sure if they did, he'd have a response all ready to dismiss such a calling out... and all his sheep would buy it, and think he was being "attacked by enemies."

It's disgusting...

I believe I heard on NPR that he has admitted before to being wrong on his prophecies on occasion.

According to the story in my local paper, Robertson claimed this past Tuesday that last spring's heavy rains and flooding in New England partly fulfilled his prediction.

I saw the episode of South Park last night that had Robertson raising money to spread the word to aliens on the plant Marklar. It was hilarious. “We need money, to build an ion particle ray gun, to defeat the tractor beam that Sally Struthers is using from her Hutt Transporter, to stop our galactic cruiser, from intercepting, the alien space ship. And not just any ion particle ray gun either, but a negative ion particle ray gun! To spread the word of God.”

Heavy rains and flooding? Well now. Given those parameters just about anyone could be a prophet.

I predict a period of uncertainty and worry! Ignore my predictions at your own peril!

Father Wolfie, could you please send me your address so that I can send you all my money?

Of course, my son. Ensure that all payments are made in non-sequential bills.

I quit listening to Pat Robertson after he claimed he can leg press 3,000 pounds.

Pat Robertson is a twit. I mean, I think his heart's in the right place, but he's still a few croutons short of a salad.

There are people out there who have made some seriously good predictions, based upon a "word from the Lord." I do not think Pat Robertson was one of them. I have not sent any of my money to any of them.

Father Wolfie, otoh, seems to be onto something, and I may have to reconsider that policy.

(tinwe, South Park can be absolutely hysterical sometimes. At other times, I hate it because it is so crude, but when it stays out of the bathroom humor and sticks to political humor or satire it can be roll on the floor funny.)

Lali

Isn't Robertson the one who said that hurricanes or meteors would rain down on Orlando during their gay pride parade and/or the one who said terrorists or tornadoes would destroy some NE town after it voted not to teach ID in schools?

Ara-Ana, yes when someone like Robertson says his god is going to rain down fire on the infidel, it doesn't make the front page the way it does when an Afghan with a ski mask and machine gun does the same thing. Probably because his crowd has made fewer motions toward fulfilling their prophesies manually in recent times (clinic bombings notwithstanding). Most of the Muslim "terrorists" we hear from are probably windbag putzes of the same caliber, but enough of them have carried out their threats that the entire movement gets taken seriously.

Pat Robertson is one of the reasons why many people think that all this God stuff is nonesense. He makes the whole lot of us look like fools with his stupid, inflammatory statements.
