When I was at the local Family Video today I saw that they had a couple of seasons of Full Metal Alchemist. I've seen this show mentioned here and there on the net and I thought I would check it out. Is it any good? Remember I've seen very little anime, would you recommend it? I'll probably watch it anyway, but I did want to hear your thoughts on it Pips if you've seen it.

While you're asking her something I'll step in and ask her something.

Will you hate me if I admit that my local movie store has one or two DVDs of Bleach and I haven't rented one of them yet?

Yes, it is good! Just adding my two cents....

Jesus Christ! Actually, the series doesn't really take off until episode sixteen (and nobody should ever watch episodes 70-115 ever again) but yes, yes yes, you really should be watching them! FTW!

To answer the original question, Sid, I've never actually seem FMA. I know it has a huge and loyal fandom, and I'd trust the people who love it. I'm on a DVD rental waiting list for the Region Twos. (People tend to forget- the UK doesn't get any but the biggest anime on local release, and I don't have a multi-region player).

Go for it- I'm sure Lily's right. :)

That's good enough for me. :) I'll tell you all what I think after I've seen it. Pips I want to watch Bleach too since that is another one I have found that has a lot of fans.

Only the first two DVDs of Bleach have been printed, but I think Viz is doing them four episodes to a disc. Another recent action anime currently under production in Region-1 is Full Metal Panic!: The Second Raid. It's better than the first series, and it pwns in every way Full Metal Panic?: Fumoffu, the side-series, which was appalling. Except for the hot springs episode.
Yeah, I think I'll turn this post into a plug for TSR. If any of you guys get a chance to rent it, I think it's probably my favourite anime. It's certainly up there with Trigun and Bleach for me, and probably just a little higher since the first series was the first anime series I ever watched. SO good. I'm happy to spoiler it for you to give you some background for watching TSR if you ever want to, because the first series turns some people off.
If any of you ever watch it dubbed, please tell me what they did with the foreign-language scenes! In the original version they used more than one language- episode five had an Italian scene, and there's an episode where a lot of Chinese is used. I presume they redubbed them into Italian and Chinese while they dubbed all the Japanese into English, and used subtitles, just like the original series, but I'd be very interested if they changed any of that.

Okay Pips. Next time I get to rent a movie and The Prestige isn't there I'll get Bleach. :)

Sid, I am going to highly suggest that you watch the Excel Saga, if you can get your hands on it. :)

Lily, if you liked Excel Saga, I highly recommend Pani Poni Dash. It's not for everyone, but the first episode was probably the funniest thing I've ever seen. :D

Sid, the Excel Saga is the funniest anime I've ever seen. I'm not sure that it would be readily available for rent. My husband found it on a bit-torrent site. These fan-subbed downoads are perfectly legal, by the way.

Thanks, Pips, I'll see if I can find it. :)

Excel Saga's long been licensed for North America, and Pani Poni recently joined it. I don't know any good unlicensed comedies at the moment. Any ideas? I was thinking about making a start on Yakitake Ja-pan, or whatever it's called. The one about the bread.
